The 2023 NFL regular season will officially begin on Thursday at Arrowhead Stadium as the Kansas City Chiefs will hang their championship banner and then kick off against the Detroit Lions, a team that had a huge second half of the 2022 regular season and enters this season favored to win the NFC North, with a chance to win the franchise’s second playoff game since 1957. Let’s take a look at some promising NFL Parlay Picks to up your chances of profiting from higher NFL betting odds in this opening week.
2023 NFL Parlay Picks for Week 1 | Bet NFL Football Lines in Xbet Sportsbook
Thursday Night Football: Detroit Lions (+7) at Kansas City Chiefs (O/U 54)
The Lions showed that they have an explosive offense last year, scoring at least 23 points in eight of their last nine games to wind up the regular season. During the off-season, the Lions upgraded at tailback and also improved their secondary. This means that they should be able to grind out a slower rhythm to the game when they have the ball, and they should be able to manage a Kansas City offense that has Patric, Mahomes on offense but doesn’t have Tyreek Hill or JuJu Smith-Schuster anymore. The Lions’ pass defense can focus on tight end Travis Kelce and force Mahomes to stretch the field with new receivers. The Chiefs are solid season finishers, but they often use the first third of the regular season to figure out which risks won’t work on defense, and Mahomes has been known to force balls into bad situations in these early games.
NFL Parlay pick: Lions to cover, go under 54 points
Sunday Night Football: Bengals at Browns, Cardinals at Commanders
Both of these games are in the early time slot. The Bengals go on the road as 2 ½-ponit favorites, while the Commanders welcome Arizona as 5 ½-point favorites. The Bengals have Joe Burrow back from his calf injury, but he did not take any snaps in preseason action. The Browns got some impressive looks out of their backup quarterbacks, but we still don’t know how Deshaun Watson will look in regular-season play. He looked rusty and slow in his six games of action to end 2022, and the Browns didn’t give him the most lucrative contract in league history to look washed up. The Browns do have a stout running game led by Nick Chubb, and they could ride that rhythm to grind out long drives, but at some point, Watson will have to make plays.
The Cardinals had to trade for Joshua Dobbs at quarterback last week, and that’s not a good sign of stability at the position going into the regular season. Kyler Murray remains injured, and the other signal-callers on the depth chart include Colt McCoy and Clayton Tune. The Commanders have Chase Young back on defense and should be able to corral the Cardinals’ attack. Sam Howell takes the field as quarterback for the Commanders, and he has Terry McLaurin at wide receiver, a dangerous route runner. I see the Washington defense locking the Cardinals down as Howell grinds out the win.
NFL Parlay pick: Bengals (-2.5) to win and cover; Commander (-5.5) to win and cover.
Prime Time Parlay: Cowboys at Giants (Sunday night), Bills at Jets (Monday night)
We didn’t see Dak Prescott at all in the preseason for Dallas except in the role of playcaller in the team’s rout of the Las Vegas Raiders in the preseason finale. Prescott threw 15 interceptions last season, the most of any NFL quarterback, in just 12 games. He has promised that the turnover bug is a thing of the past, but it remains to be seen how he will look in regular-season play. He did look solid the first half of 2021, through the Cowboys’ overtime win in New England, but a leg strain he suffered in that game kept him out for two weeks, and he looked hesitant after that. He also looked tentative until he went down in early 2022, and he alternated between dominant and disappointing performances after that. The Giants have Daniel Jones back at quarterback, and the hope is that Brian Daboll will return him to the passer-rusher combo that helped him surprise the league in his early seasons. Saquon Barkley is back at tailback, and the running game will test Dallas’ fortitude.
The Bills and Jets have an elite quarterback duel in Josh Allen vs Aaron Rodgers. Both teams have elite receivers; the Jets are probably better equipped at tailback with Dalvin Cook than the Bills, and both teams have solid defenses. The Bills have struggled to win prime-time matchups against elite teams, both in the regular season and the playoffs, and we know how clutch Aaron Rodgers was in Green Bay.
NFL Parlay pick: Giants (+2) to cover; Jets (+1) to cover.
