NFL Week 1 Odds to start your 2024 Season! In sports betting, a “teaser” is a type of parlay that gives you help on the point spread for multiple contests. The price for the help is a decrease in your payout, but the upside is an increased chance in winning.
The most frequently used teaser in football changes a point spread by six points, one way or the other. For example, if you’re thinking about betting on a three-point underdog, a six-point teaser would now make it a nine-point spread.
For you to win, all legs of the teaser have to hit. The best use of teasers in football involves crossing spreads at three and seven points.
In football games, the most frequent victory margins are three, six or seven points, so if you can get a teaser leg that helps you grab all of those, you’re getting top value.
The Wong teaser involves two teams with -110 odds, low point totals under 50 for pro games, and underdogs with +1.5 to +2.5 spreads or favorites with -7.5 to -8.5 spreads.
In this article, we’ll go into the “why” for these factors and then talk about some primo teasers for Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.

Why a point total below 50?
NFL games are better for teasers than college games due to potential score variance. High college scores can quickly change spreads, unlike the steadier NFL games with fewer points.
So if you have an underdog between +1.5 and +2.5, use the six-point teaser to get that line up between +7.5 and +8.5. If you have a favorite of -7.5 to -8.5 points, the teaser brings it down to between -1.5 and -2.5.

Green Bay Packers vs Philadelphia Eagles
When: Friday, Sept. 6, 8:15 pm ET
NFL Picks: Packers (+1.5) vs Eagles
I would push these lines to Green Bay +7.5 and Indianapolis +7.5. Why?
First, let’s look at the Green Bay-Philadelphia matchup. It’s an international game (in Brazil).
Two of the top young quarterbacks in the NFL will square off, as Jordan Love has taken over nicely for Aaron Rodgers, and Jalen Hurts has reached elite heights with the Eagles.
In his debut season as a starter, Love impressed with 4,159 passing yards and a 31:11 TD:INT ratio. He guided the Packers to victory over the Cowboys in the wild-card round but fell short against the 49ers.
Hurts had a terrific 2022 and had led the Eagles to a 10-1 start in 2023 before the wheels fell apart up and down the roster, and they skidded to an 11-6 finish and a humiliating rout at Tampa Bay in the wild-card round.
The Eagles replaced both coordinators, but a real problem, according to interviews, was the stoic personality Hurts showed in the locker room.
He did throw 15 interceptions and did lose five fumbles in 2023, so his ball security became a problem as well.
An interview with veteran Lane Johnson indicated that Hurts has upped his locker room persona in summer training, and there should be few teams as motivated to start 2023 with a bang.
Tailbacks
At tailback, both Saquon Barkley and Josh Jacobs make their debut for the Eagles and Packers, respectively.
Barkley came back from an ACL tear with the Giants and had a decent season last year, especially given the dumpster fire that is the quarterback position at the Meadowlands.
Jacobs replaces Aaron Jones, who combined speed and power to steamroll opponents.
Bo Melton
Some other interesting players who emerged down the stretch include Bo Melton, a wide receiver who was drafted by Seattle in the seventh round in 2022 but ended up with the Pack last year.
In the three-game winning streak that vaulted Green Bay into the postseason, he caught 15 passes for 211 yards and a touchdown.
The Packers defense struggled throughout the season, with a lack of ball security and defensive confidence from the Cowboys evident in their wild-card playoff game.
The Packers did take advantage, but when their defense needed to get late stops in San Francisco, they couldn’t seal the deal.
Jordan Love
Love is a young, fearless quarterback, and starting in an international showcase is an opportunity that he has earned.
However, the veteran presence in the Eagles’ defense should take advantage of their improved leadership and limit the opportunities that the Packers have to score points.
I see the Eagles reasserting themselves as an elite NFC team and giving the young Packers some more lessons to learn.

Houston Texans vs Indianapolis Colts
When: Sunday, Sept. 8, 1:00 pm ET
NFL Picks: Texans (-1.5) at Colts
Now, let’s look at the Texans’ visit to Indianapolis. Week 1 has not been kind to Indy bettors (or fans) in a while.
Since 2008, the Colts are 2-13-1 straight up and 1-14-1 against the spread in their season opener.
Houston traded for Stefon Diggs in the off season, adding to an already dangerous wide receiver room that already had Tank Dell and Nico Collins.
Houston played in Indianapolis in Week 18 last year, mounting a comeback to snag the AFC South title. That crucial drop that Tyler Goodson had on a fourth-down pass slammed the door on the Colts. Psychologically, the Colts could still be cooked.
C.J. Stroud
Stroud was the 2023 Offensive Rookie of the Year, finishing above the NFL average in adjusted EPA per drop back, air yards, and success rate.
He led the NFL in air yards, which is the distance from the line of scrimmage to the receiving target on a quarterback’s pass attempts.
The Ohio State product went to Houston and turned around a Texans program that has been mired in the basement since deciding to leave Deshaun Watson on the bench due to his trade request.
DeMeco Ryans
Ryans was the team’s third head coach in the last three seasons, and he brought in a culture of accountability that was a fresh breath for the team.
The defense got salty and the offense took off. Adding Joe Mixon at tailback makes the Texans’ offense more balanced.
It is also important to note that divisional home underdogs have actually done well in Week 1 over the last 20 years, posting a 25-13 record against the spread.
The Colts almost got into the playoffs last year despite the fact that rookie quarterback Anthony Richardson only started four games (and got knocked out of all four).
Gardner Minshew
Backup Minshew came in and played well, starting the other 13 games.
Minshew is now with Las Vegas, with backups Joe Flacco and Sam Ehlinger. Flacco showed age in a game against Cleveland last year.
Ehlinger had a brief opportunity in 2022 but struggled. Expectations are high for the Texans to repeat as AFC South champions in Year 2 of Ryans’ system.
Richardson is slated to return as the starter, but the rust will be significant, especially since he’s not likely to see much preseason time as the team wants to protect his health.
So, for your teaser, I like the Eagles and the Texans to win big. Take advantage of the bigger payout that a parlay can bring in while hedging your losses with the friendlier spreads.
