One of the great AFC rivalries will be renewed on Sunday night as the Denver Broncos (6-5) visit the Kansas City Chiefs (7-4) to start working on a logjam in the AFC West. The Chiefs lead the division by a game; all of the other three teams currently sit at 6-5. This will be the 122nd meeting between the two teams, and currently the Chiefs lead, 67-55. However, the series was just about dead even until six years ago; the Chiefs have won the last 11 meetings in a row. The struggles that the Chiefs had in the early part of the season, on both sides of the ball, seem to be easing, while the Broncos are rounding back into form after starting the season 3-0 but then falling off the table.

Why should you bet on the Broncos?
After starting 3-0, Denver dropped four in a row, but since then they have won three of four, including a 28-13 home win over the Los Angeles Chargers last week, a game in which they were three-point underdogs. Teddy Bridgewater struggled, going just 11 of 18 for 129 yards and a score. He rushed for 10 yards and scored on the ground as well, but he had to sit out the second quarter with a lower leg injury. However, Drew Lock did not play well in relief, and so Bridgewater came back to play the whole second half.
Javonte Williams has been a real find for the offense; he ran for 54 yards on 14 carries and scored, and he also caught three passes for 57 yards. The defense also contributed heroics, sacking Justin Herbert three times and snagging two interceptions, one for a pick-six. Austin Ekeler was only able to pick up 2.6 yards per carry for the Chargers as the Broncos also shut down the running game. The defense has permitted just 17.8 points per game while tallying 2.5 sacks per contest.
Why should you put your money on the Chiefs?
Kansas City comes out of the bye week after winning four games in a row; in their last game, they hosted the Dallas Cowboys as 2 ½-point favorites and covered in a 19-9 win. Patrick Mahomes was 23 of 37 for 260 yards and turned the ball over twice. The running game came through, as Clyde Edwards-Helaire returned to the lineup, running for 63 yards on a dozen carries and scoring a touchdown. The defense sacked Dak Prescott five times and intercepted him twice.
Mahomes needs to work on ball security; he has an uncharacteristic 11 interceptions this season, tied for third highest in the NFL. He is fifth in passing yards and third in passing touchdowns, but ball security will be important against this tough Denver defense. The KC defense has permitted 17 points or fewer in five of their last six games; in that stretch, the defense has seven interceptions and a dozen sacks.
Final Score and Betting Prediction
This is a mammoth point spread given the realities of the Kansas City defense this season, and given the Chiefs’ difficulties with ball security. I think the Chiefs win this game, but I don’t see them winning in double figures. I predict a final score of Kansas City 27, Denver 20.
