NFL Week 5 ATS Betting Picks & Predictions

One of the off-season’s biggest dramas involved the relationship between Indianapolis Colts tailback Jonathan Taylor and his front office, as he requested a trade that owner Jim Irsay declined to pursue. The team then put him on the physically unable to perform list as he was dealing with lingering discomfort in his ankle, an injury that put him on the injured reserve list back on December 17. The front office suggested that the injury was aggravated by activities away from the team, which could have let the team off the hook for paying him, but that effort seems to have ended. He will return to practice on Wednesday and could take the field Sunday against Tennessee. The Colts (2-2) have the same record as every other team in the topsy-turvy AFC South, so it’s a new season with Taylor back. Read on to find our top NFL ATS Picks going into Week 5.

Philadelphia Eagles at L.A. Rams

When: Sunday, October 8, 2023, 4:05 pm ET
Where: SoFi Stadium, Inglewood, C
TV/Live Stream: FOX

The Rams almost coughed up a victory against Indianapolis last week as the Colts scored 15 points in the fourth quarter to force overtime. Luckily for the Rams, they got the touchdown in the extra frame. Now they see the same offense as the Philadelphia Eagles come to town – but with Jalen Hurts running it, instead of a rookie quarterback. Both teams have a decent running defense, but Hurts has more quality receiving options down the field. Eagles to win and cover.

Cincinnati Bengals at Arizona Cardinals

When: Sunday, October 8, 2023, 4:05 pm ET
Where: State Farm Stadium, Glendale, AZ
TV/Live Stream: FOX

The Bengals don’t have Tee Higgins right now, and Joe Mixon hasn’t been able to find as much room to run as the Cincinnati O-line hasn’t been playing well. Now they head to the desert, where the Cardinals have routed the Dallas Cowboys but fallen to everyone else. The Cardinals don’t have an elite defense by any means, so Joe Burrow has an opportunity to get things going in the right direction this week. Despite what we saw against Tennessee last week, the Bengal defense does have what it takes to corral Joshua Dobbs and James Conner. Bengals to win and cover.

Kansas City Chiefs at Minnesota Vikings

When: Sunday, October 8, 2023, 4:25 pm ET
Where: U.S. Bank Stadium, Minneapolis, MN
TV/Live Stream: CBS

Patrick Mahomes struggled with ball security against the New York Jets last week, tossing a pair of interceptions that helped the Jets stay in contention despite having backup quarterback Zach Wilson running the offense. Wilson rebounded from a poor start and had the Jets driving late before letting a shotgun snap clang off him and get away for a costly turnover. Mahomes had a couple of huge scrambles to convert on third down, showing that he knows how to finish big games. This is not a skill that Kirk Cousins has ever shown on a consistent basis. Cousins does lead the NFL with 11 touchdown passes, but he also has a tendency to throw that back-breaking interception. I’m not sure the Chiefs can beat the Vikings by more than a touchdown given their pass defense at this point in time. Vikings to cover.

New York Jets at Denver Broncos

When: Sunday, October 8, 2023, 4:25 pm ET
Where: Empower Field at Mile High, Denver, CO
TV/Live Stream: CBS

The Jets have the much better defense in this matchup. He should be able to hand the ball to Breece Hall, and Garrett Wilson should be able to get open down the field. With the poise that Zach Wilson showed against the Chiefs, he should have plenty of opportunities to slice and dice the Denver defense. The Jets have D.J. Reed and Sauce Gardner in their secondary, which will make this week a lot harder for Russell Wilson than it was for him against the Chicago Bears last week. Jets to cover.
