Los Angeles Chargers quarterback Justin Herbert suffered a fractured middle finger on his left (non-throwing) hand on Sunday during the third quarter of the team’s 24-17 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. He got his hand stuck in a defender’s helmet after he threw a pick to Tre’von Moehrig. When he came back out for the team’s next possession, a bandage was around his left hand and the finger had a splint. He would put on a glove later and had the splint on after the game. The offense went out of the pistol and shotgun formations the rest of the way, and Herbert was able to find Joshua Palmer for a 45-yard pass to salt away the victory. Chicago Bears at Washington Commanders TNF
When: Thursday Night Football, October 5 at 8:15 pm ET
Where: FedExField, Landover, MD
TV / Streaming: Prime Video
Justin Fields has to work behind a patchwork offensive line without a lot of talent in the wide receiving group. Last year’s featured tailback, David Montgomery, is doing damage for the Detroit Lions while Khalil Herbert is trying to make his way in the NFL. The Bears don’t have much going for them on defense, either, which we saw when they gave up 31 points to Denver, of all teams, last week. Going to Washington on a short week won’t be pretty.
NFL Parlay Pick: Washington to win and cover
Dallas Cowboys at San Francisco 49ers SNF
When: Sunday Night Football, October 8 at 8:20 pm ET
Where: Levi’s Stadium, Santa Clara, CA
TV / Streaming: NBC
Yes, the Dallas Cowboys have routed the Giants, the Jets (with Zach Wilson) and the Patriots. However, the San Francisco 49ers represent an entirely different level. The Cowboys’ O-line has enough injuries to make rushing Dak Prescott and bottling up Tony Pollard easy propositions, and the 49ers’ running game will pound the soft middle of the Cowboys’ defense.
NFL Parlay Pick: San Francisco to win and cover
Buffalo Bills at Jacksonville Jaguars
When: Sunday, October 8 at 9:30 am ET
Where: Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, London
TV / Streaming: NFL Net
The clash of the Josh Allens is coming – Jacksonville’s Allen had three sacks of Desmond Ridder last week in a big win over Atlanta. Buffalo’s Allen had a perfect quarterback rating and accounted for five total touchdowns against Miami in a romp at home. Jacksonville is set for the second London game in two weeks, while the Bills have to deal with jet lag and travel across the Atlantic. The Bills do have a dominant defense, but the Jaguars’ D is underrated. If Buffalo can muster a win, it will come in the last drive, and the defenses will have the upper hand.
NFL Parlay Pick: Jacksonville to cover, take the under.
Carolina Panthers at Detroit Lions
When: Sunday, October 8 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Ford Field, Detroit, MI
TV / Streaming: FOX
Jared Goff and David Montgomery key a Detroit offense that has something cooking right now – and the Carolina Panthers’ secondary has some injuries. Bryce Young has done fairly well so far as a rookie, but he will have Charles Harris and Aidan Hutchinson rumbling after him.
NFL Parlay Pick: Lions win and cover, Saints cover
New Orleans Saints at New England Patriots
When: Sunday, October 8 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Gillette Stadium, Foxborough, MA
TV / Streaming: CBS
The Saints have Alvin Kamara back, along with Chris Olave and Michael Thomas running routes – and don’t forget Rashid Shaheed bolting on deep routes. Derek Carr was limited by a shoulder injury last week but should be able to put more on the ball this week. The Patriots’ offense looked horrendous last week, as Mac Jones was sent to the bench against Dallas, and the Saints have a defense that can be as opportunistic as the Cowboys’ was.
NFL Parlay Pick: Lions win and cover, Saints cover
