Why should you bet on the Steelers?
The Steelers have now dropped two of three, including that spanking by the Jaguars. Ben Roethlisberger threw five interceptions — two of which went for pick-sixes. He went 33 for 55 for 312 yards in the loss, but those turnovers just undermined his team. In the press conference after the game, he said that he felt like he might have lost his touch as an NFL quarterback. That might have been the shock of the loss, but that had to be a difficult statement for his teammates to hear. Against the Chiefs, Big Ben his historically done well, throwing for 1,433 yards and 13 touchdowns against just three picks, leading his team to five wins in six meetings, with an overall QBR of 118.7. The defense is also an issue with the Steelers, particularly against the run. Rookie Leonard Fournette ran wild for the Jaguars, picking up 181 yards and scoring a pair of touchdowns. Kareem Hunt has gotten off to a terrific start for the Chiefs in the tailback position, and he seems poised to have a big day against the Pittsburgh defense as well. If you like the Steelers, then you see the Chiefs resting on their laurels after five big wins to start the season, and you also see Big Ben making a statement by getting back to his normally elite level of play. Why should you put your money on the Chiefs?
Kansas City is the last undefeated team in the NFL, a run that began with that unforeseen rout of the New England Patriots up in Boston to start the season. They have won each game by at least seven points, and a team that had picked up the reputation for having a plodding offense has moved at video-game speed so far this season. Against Houston, they gained 460 yards against a solid defense, including 323 passing yards. Alex Smith has yet to throw an interception this season and has a combined QBR of 125.8, tops in the NFL. Against the Steelers, he has just a 2-3 record with a combined 83.8 QBR in those five contests, but with Kareem Hunt (with a league-leading 609 yards on the ground so far this season) in the backfield, Smith has the balance that he needs to take the pressure off his shoulders to do everything on his own. The Chiefs do give up a lot of yards, ranking #27 in total yards permitted (366), but they tend to bend rather than break, as they permit 22.2 points per game (#17 in the NFL). If you like the Chiefs, then you see Smith and Hunt torching a beleaguered Steelers defense — and you also see the Chiefs doing enough to keep Big Ben and the Steelers’ offense under control.NFL Week 6 Betting Trends
