NFL Odds: Over/Under Picks for Week 9

NFL Odds: Over/Under Picks for Week 9

Written by on October 31, 2023

The Washington Commanders lost to the Philadelphia Eagles, 38-31, on Sunday, to drop to 3-5. Just a few plays going the other way in those games against the Eagles could have the Commanders at 5-3, as the Eagles won their first meeting in overtime. With Tuesday’s trade deadline coming at 4:00 pm Eastern time, and that loss could push the Commanders toward seller status. Quarterback Sam Howell threw four touchdown passes in Sunday’s loss, and it’s possible that the team will start dealing contributors off the defensive line instead of seeing them go to free agency. Defensive ends Chase Young and Montez Sweat enter free agency after this season, and it’s not likely that the team will have the funds to sign both of them as defensive tackles Daron Payne and Jonathan Allen already take up 13% of the team’s salary cap for 2024 apiece. As we move into Week 9, take a look at our top NFL O/U Picks against the point total.

NFL O/U Picks in Week 9

Arizona Cardinals at Cleveland Browns

When: Sunday, November 5 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Cleveland Browns Stadium, Cleveland, OH
TV / Streaming: CBS

Joshua Dobbs will get another start at quarterback for the Cardinals as Kyler Murray is still not ready to return. He threw for 208 yards against the Baltimore Ravens this past weekend as the Cardinals fell short, 31-24. This game a week after the Ravens routed Detroit by 32, so the Cardinals’ offense was impressive with this output. Their next game is against one of the top defenses in the NFL. However, the Browns aren’t sure who will play quarterback. Deshaun Watson has a shoulder sprain that held him out against Seattle this past weekend, and the Seahawks crept away with a 24-20 win. It’s hard to see Dobbs producing enough points for the Cardinals to hold up their end of the point total here, and it’s also hard to see either P.J. Walker or a rusty Watson to guide the Browns to a lot of points. Take the under.

Chicago Bears at New Orleans Saints

When: Sunday, November 5 at 1:00 pm ET
Where: Caesars Superdome, New Orleans, LA
TV / Streaming: CBS

The Bears are also dealing with a quarterback injury as Justin Fields went down with a thumb injury in Week 6, when Chicago lost to Minnesota. Tyson Bagent started for the Bears in Weeks 7 and 8, guiding Chicago to a big win over Las Vegas but they ended up getting shellacked on Sunday night by the Chargers. It didn’t help that Bagent had one touchdown pass clank off the stomach of a receiver in the end zone and that tailback D’Onta Foreman could only manage 34 rushing yards after accounting for three touchdowns last week. New Orleans has struggled against good defenses – they only managed nine points against Tampa Bay and 13 against Houston. However, against teams with iffy defenses, they have poured on the points. They dropped 38 on Indianapolis and 34 on New England, and they scored 24 in a loss to Jacksonville. Given how generous the Chicago defense is, the Saints might get to this point total by themselves. Take the over.

Dallas Cowboys at Philadelphia Eagles

When: Sunday, November 5 at 3:25 pm ET
Where: Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, PA
TV / Streaming: FOX

The last time the Cowboys played another team with visions of NFL elite status, they took a 42-10 beating at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in prime time. Since then, they have edged the Chargers by three out in Los Angeles, gone through the bye week, and routed the Rams at home, 43-20, this past Sunday. Their wins have been emphatic; outside the Charger win, their other wins have come by 23, 35, 20, and 40 points. Their losses (to the Cardinals by 12 and the 49ers by 32) have been surprising in their poor preparation. Against the Rams on Sunday, Dak Prescott got sacked twice in the first series but led the team to a touchdown drive. That sort of resilience has been in short supply in Dallas. The Eagles have only scored fewer than 25 points twice this season – once in a 23-14 win over the Rams and the other in a 20-14 loss to the Jets. In their last two games, against Miami and Washington, they have combined for 69 points. The Cowboys’ defense is solid in the pass rush, but coverage can be a problem, and running quarterbacks have given them problems. So has a dedicated running game. Philadelphia is strong in all three areas, and both teams should stack up points here. Take the over.
