The Cleveland Browns are still flying way under the radar, but one of the most misery-laden franchises in the NFL suddenly has a terrific team. Their coach, Kevin Stefanski, is the front-runner to pick up Coach of the Year after becoming the first coach ever to post an 11-win season with at least four different starting quarterbacks. Myles Garrett is the favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year as he leads a ferocious front seven. Then there’s Joe Flacco, who came back from the dumpster fire known as the New York Jets and has found his old Super Bowl form. There’s also Deshaun Watson, who is on his couch collecting huge checks from the Browns after going down to yet another injury. How far can they go in the AFC playoff bracket? We will explore the NFL Playoff Picture and how you should treat the Browns and the other AFC contenders in your NFL betting decisions.

AFC Wild Cards
5. Cleveland Browns
It’s true that the Texans bring a dangerous passing attack. The duo of C.J. Stroud and Nico Collins will wreak havoc in the AFC South for some time to come. However, the Browns have the defense to keep Stroud from having enough time in the pocket to torch them down the field. They also have the O-line to protect Joe Flacco and open holes for Kareem Hunt and Jerome Ford. Even though the Browns have to win in Houston, this should just be the first step in what promises to be a deep playoff run for a Cleveland team that has never appeared in a Super Bowl. Most dangerous wild card.

6. Miami Dolphins
All Miami had to do is beat the Buffalo Bills on Sunday at home to win the AFC East title and get at least one, if not two, playoff games at home. They couldn’t hold their lead over the Bills, though, and their offense fell off the table, and now they have to win as road warriors. In the AFC, the top three seeds (Baltimore, Buffalo and Kansas City) are all open stadiums in cold-weather cities. That will make it tough for the Dolphins, who rely on speed in the passing game to win. Even with the return of Jaylen Waddle and Raheem Mostert to the offense, going to Kansas City and winning in freezing temperatures at night will be a tall order. Following that up with a trip to Baltimore and then, possibly, to Buffalo would be an impressive feat indeed. Mildly dangerous.

7. Pittsburgh Steelers
Mike Tomlin has still never had a losing season with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He knows how to scheme and motivate a defense, and his teams have solid offensive and defensive lines. He’s also gotten the most out of Mason Rudolph the last three weeks – which makes for a dilemma going into the wild-card round of the playoffs. Should the Steelers ride the hot hand and start Rudolph at quarterback or turn the offense back over to a now-healty Kenny Pickett? Pickett spent much of the early part of the 2023 season struggling to move the ball and find the end zone, while Rudolph has been able to get the Steelers above 30 points in two of the last three games. Najee Harris can also pound the ball on the ground. If the Steelers can leverage enough Buffalo mistakes into an upset win in the wild-card round, and if T.J. Watt can return for the divisional playoff round, then this is a Steelers team that could do some shocking damage. Those are some big “ifs,” though. Mildly dangerous wild card.
