Chicago Blackhawks vs Tampa Bay Lightning NHL Betting Preview

There were very few NHL Betting fans who picked the Tampa Bay Lightning to come out of the East, especially given the road they had to travel to get to the Stanley Cup Final. Sure, they scored a ton of goals in the regular season, but everyone knows that goal tending and defense wins championships, right? The Bolts are in, though, and they are an exciting young team that looks set to give the Chicago Blackhawks a run for their money.

Stanley Cup Chicago vs Tampa Bay Game 1

Date/Time: Wednesday, June 3, 8:00 PM Location: Amalie Arena, Tampa, Florida Opening Line: Lightning -130 TV: CBC, NBC, TVA
Things could not have started out much tougher for Tampa Bay than having to face the Detroit Red Wings in the opening round. The Bolts went in as the underdog, but came out with a ton of respect after knocking off the Wings in 6 games. Perhaps the biggest surprise, other than the outcome, was the fact that they managed to get through despite not getting much in the way of point production from Steven Stamkos. The Lightning had an even tougher second round opponent, as the Montreal Canadiens had the hot goaltender that everyone wants heading into the playoffs. Despite the best efforts of Carey Price, Tampa were able to get out to a 3-0 series lead, eventually finishing off the Canadiens in 6.
The Lightning had to then face another hot goaltender in the Eastern Conference Final, as Henrik Lundqvist had almost singlehandedly propelled the New York Rangers into the conference finals. Tampa jumped out to a 3-1 series lead, and seemed to solve Lundqvist in the process, hitting 6 goals in back to back games. The Rangers, as they had done all postseason, found a way back in, forcing a Game 7 on home ice. Tampa Bay stunned everyone by skating into MSG and leaving with a 2-0 win in a game where Ben Bishop stood on his head to earn the shutout. Tyler Johnson has been the start for the Lightning, racking up 21 points in the playoffs. Stamkos has got on track after a poor first round, and has now posted 17 points. Chicago Blackhawks

Key NHL Betting Trends

Chicago Blackhawks
This is the first appearance in the Finals for the Lightning since they won it back in 2004. They will be facing a team that has won the cup twice in the last 4 years, and who are knocking on dynasty’s door. Expect this Stanley Cup Final to be a wide open, high-scoring affair, with the Bolts falling just a little short. I like the Blackhawks to win the series in 6 games.
