NHL Odds Preview — Western Conference Final

It takes 16 wins in the NHL postseason in order for a team to get their hands on the Stanley Cup, and while that is the ultimate goal, a secondary task is to get those wins in as few attempts as possible. One team doing a very good job of that is the Chicago Blackhawks, who have made it to the Western Conference Final by playing just 6 games in total. That has made them one of the NHL odds favorites to go all the way.

Western Conference NHL Odds: Chicago or Anaheim?

The Blackhawks entered the 2014-15 season as one of the teams at the top of the bookies list of favorites, and they certainly came out looking very strong indeed. That all changed when Patrick Kane went down with an injury that would keep him out for a large portion of the regular season. Their odds of winning the Stanley Cup dropped dramatically when the bad news was delivered, and they dropped even further as Chicago struggled to maintain any sort of consistency with their star player out of the lineup. It was later revealed that Kane would return for the postseason, but the feeling was that he would come back rusty, and that the Blackhawks would continue to struggle. blackhawks-ducks-nhl-odds Those doubts were pretty much cast aside early on, as Kane managed 2 goals and 5 assists in 6 games in round 1 versus the Nashville Predators. The more he played, the more comfortable he looked, and it’s fair to say that he played a major role in Chicago getting the series win versus the Predators. He, and the team as a whole, were even better in the second round against a very good Minnesota Wild team. Kane scored in each of the 4 games, tallying 5 goals and an assist as the Blackhawks swept the Wild with very little difficulty at all. It was the performance in the second round that really made people sit up and take notice. That included the bookies, who now have the Blackhawks in as the favorite to win the Stanley Cup.

Early Betting Favorites?

We call them the favorites right now, but there are some places that have Chicago and the Anaheim Ducks, their Western Conference Final opponents, as joint favorites. What that means is that we are likely about to be treated to a pretty great series between these two teams.   Sources NHL.com (http://www.nhl.com/ice/player.htm?id=8474141) ESPN.com (http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/12775007/nhl-2015-stanley-cup-playoffs-chicago-blackhawks-vs-minnesota-wild)
