Did your wagers on the big game come up short? There’s no time like the present to get your sports betting account headed in the right direction. In the NHL, Vegas and Winnipeg are your top two teams in the Western Conference, although Nashville is coming on strong in the Central Division, with just one regulation loss in their last 10 games. In the East, Tampa Bay still leads the standings, but Boston keeps gaining ground with an 8-1-1 record in their last ten. Here are our top matchups for the week ahead.

Top NHL Betting Picks of the Week – February 5th

Tuesday, February 6

Boston at Detroit (7:30pm ET, NESN / FSDT)

How about those Boston Bruins? In their extended hot streak they have moved all the way to #1 in goals permitted per game (2.4) while staying hot on offense, scoring 3.2 goals per game, fourth overall. They took down the speedy Toronto Maple Leafs at home on Saturday, cruising to a 4-1 win behind Patrice Bergeron’s 22nd goal of the season. The B’s are also in the top six in power play percentage and on the penalty kill. On Tuesday night they head to Detroit to take on the Red Wings in an Original Six matchup. The Red Wings are in the bottom twelve in the league in scoring (2.5 goals per game, 27th overall), goals permitted (2.9 goals per game, 20th overall) and on the power play (18.2%, 21st overall). They fell to Florida on the road on Saturday night, 3-2. The Red Wings’ extended rebuild is taking far longer than many fans expected. With top player  Mike Green likely on the trade block, how much motivation can there be in the Wings’ locker room? NHL Betting Prediction: Boston 4, Detroit 2

Wednesday, February 7

Nashville at Toronto (7:30pm ET, FSSM / TSN)

The Nashville Predators have been fairly solid on defense since that long run to the Stanley Cup Finals began last year. They still rank third in the NHL in goals permitted per game at 2.5, but it is the revival of their offense that has them climbing the Western Conference standings. They took down the New York Rangers at home on Saturday, 5-2, and face the New York Islanders in Brooklyn on Monday night before heading north of the border to take on Toronto on Wednesday night. The Predators now have the third-best power play in the league at 24.4%, and their 3.0 goals scored per game has them at tenth overall. They won’t have Filip Forsberg, who starts a three-game suspension on Monday for his hit on Jimmy Vesey on Saturday night. They travel to Toronto to face a team that took a 4-1 drubbing in Boston on Saturday night and will host Anaheim on Monday night. The Leafs score a lot (3.1 goals per game, seventh overall) and are fairly solid on defense (2.8 goals per game, 12th overall). They have only won five times in regulation in their last ten outings, so can they cool down the Predators? NHL Betting Prediction: Nashville 3, Toronto 2

Thursday, February 8

Vegas at San Jose (10:30pm ET, AT&TSN / CSNCAL)

The Golden Knights took down the Washington Capitals on the road Sunday, 4-3, and continue a road trip in Pittsburgh Tuesday night and then head to San Jose for a Thursday night tilt. While the Golden Knights are #2 overall in scoring (3.4 goals per game) and still have a fairly stingy defense, this is a trap game in the making after all that cross-country travel and after two high-octane games against some of the East’s best teams. They face a Sharks team that has snuck into second place in the Pacific Division behind Vegas despite having just a +10 goal differential on the season. San Jose delivered a 3-1 win on Sunday in Carolina and heads to Colorado on Tuesday before coming home to host Vegas on Thursday. While both teams will be a little weary of the road, I see Vegas coming in with a little less steam — and I see the Sharks taking advantage. NHL Betting Prediction: San Jose 3, Vegas 2
