Did you really think that the men’s tennis final at the Paris Olympics would end up any other way? The bigger surprise than finding Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz in the finals came from learning that Djokovic has never appeared in a gold-medal match in the Olympics before. He beat Lorenzo Musetti of Italy, 6-4, 6-2, winning the last four games. He already had 24 Grand Slam titles, more than any other man. Furthermore, he has spent more time ranked #1 in the world in men’s tennis than anyone else. Now he has a chance to add another prize to his trophy case.
His opponent, Alcaraz, is 16 years younger – but he’s already beaten Djokovic twice at Wimbledon, both times in the final. Roland-Garros is surfaced with clay, though, not grass. Alcaraz mowed over Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada, 6-1, 6-1, though, so he looks more than ready to win on this surface. Djokovic (37) is the oldest man ever to make a Summer Games tennis final. Alcaraz (21) is the youngest. So either way, history will be made. Who will win? We have the sports betting odds on this and other tennis events as well as some predictions.

Men’s Singles Final: Carlos Alcaraz (-225) to win, over 2 ½ sets
A more interesting prop here is the over/under on sets. The line, of course, is 2 ½ sets (the match is best-of-three), and the over is +125 while the under is -185.
It’s true that Alcaraz represents the next generation for men’s tennis. He’s quick, and as well as Djokovic has played, it hasn’t been that long since he had his torn meniscus repaired. Djokovic did report “sharp pain” in his knee in the quarterfinals, when he beat Stefanos Tsitsipas.
But can Alcaraz pull off the sweep? He did it at Wimbledon, in a best-of-five final. He also looked awfully dominant in his win over Auger-Aliassime. However, given the emotion that Djokovic showed after beating Musetti in his semifinal, it’s hard to imagine that Djokovic won’t be able to reach down and take one set here.
^Women’s Singles Final: Donna Vekic (+195) to win, over 22.5 games
Iga Swiatek seemed like she was steamrolling to another big win on the clay in Paris, but then Qinwen Zheng got in her way at the semifinals. Zheng came into that semifinal as a +700 underdog but still prevailed, giving Swiatek her first loss at Roland-Garros since 2021. The second seed, Coco Gauff, went down in the third round against Donna Vekic, and now the 13th seed will meet seventh-seed Zheng in the final. These players last met near the end of 2023, with Zheng needing three sets to stop Vekic.
Zheng won a clay title this year in Palermo and has a 10-match winning streak overall, including a win over Angelique Kerber in the quarterfinals. Zheng came back from down 4-1 in the third set and gave Kerber’s storied tennis career a rather impolite ending. Less than 24 hours later, she came back on the court to stop Swiatek, the world #1 player.
Donna was also a heavy underdog (+450) against Gauff, but Gauff’s game has been off for these whole Olympics as she crashed out early in doubles and mixed doubles as well.
Vekic made it to the semifinals at Wimbledon, losing to Jasmine Paolini in a tiebreak at the third set. Vekic’s semifinal win (6-4, 6-0) was a lot easier than Zheng’s as she did not face a single break point. Zheng has won three of the last five sets she’s played against Zheng, so she offers significant value and comes in with a lot more rest.
^Me voy con una medalla de plata increíble ❤️ y con la cabeza alta después de una tremenda batalla hoy! Enhorabuena @DjokerNole por ese oro que tanto has buscado 🤝🏻
