June 20 is the opening day for Copa America, the oldest international soccer tournament in the world. Dating back to 1916, the Copa has taken place every four years, with some exceptions, fielding South American nations.
In some years, the tournament has also featured guest nations. The 2024 Copa America is being hosted by the United States and combined South and North America as the two soccer federations for the continents, CONMEBOL and CONCACAF, have collaborated in a strategic partnership. The tournament includes the 10 CONMEBOL nations and six of the CONCACAF nations that qualified through Nations League play.
The United States has 14 different stadiums hosting matches, with the final set for Miami’s Hard Rock Stadium. Let’s look at the four groups, as well as sports betting predictions for the opening matches in Group A.

Argentina is the defending champs, while Canada are set for their Copa America debut; they needed to beat Trinidad and Tobago in a playoff to make the field.
After beating Brazil in the final of the 2020 Copa, La Albiceleste kept rolling, defeating France on penalties to win the 2022 World Cup, their first triumph in that storied tournament since 1986. Since then, the momentum has not slowed, with Argentina winning 13 of their last 14 matches.
South Americans beat Ecuador, 1-0, and routed Guatemala in their two warm-up matches, getting their winning ways back up and running after a shocking loss to Uruguay in October.
The last time Canada faced Argentina was way back in May 2010 as Argentina rolled to a 5-0 laugher. They needed goals from Cyle Larin and Jacob Shaffelburg in the second half to send Trinidad and Tobago home.
They just appointed Jesse Marsch as team manager in May, and they view this tournament as a chance to build international experience before the 2026 World Cup, which Canada co-host along with Mexico and the United States.
Marsch’s first match as manager didn’t go well (a 4-0 shellacking by the Netherlands), but they followed that up with a scoreless draw against France. Can they claw a point out of this match? That’s a tough argument to make. Argentina to win.

Peru +320 vs Chile +105
Copa America Odds: Draw +215 (O/U 1.5)
When: Friday, 8:00 pm ET
Peru have not lost any matches in 2024, including their 1-0 win over El Salvador in their last warm-up match. Chile also comes in on the momentum of a 3-0 win over Paraguay. Peru has a five-match unbeaten streak in all competitions, as the addition of Jorge Fossati as manager late in 2023 has improved the team.
His arrival ended a seven-match winless streak that included six losses. The Peruvians have only allowed one goal in the four matches that Fossati has coached, in a 4-1 win over the Dominican Republic. Peru did win their group the last time the Copa America was in the United States, in 2016.
Chile’s manager is Ricardo Gareca, who led Peru to the 2018 World Cup, their first appearance in 36 years, and with “La Roja” he has won two of three matches, with the only loss coming in 3-2 fashion in a friendly against France.
Chile have scored eight goals in three matches since he took over the team, and they won the Copa in 2016 when the tournament took place in the United States.
