Bundesliga Betting: Hertha Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund Odds & Picks – June 6 2020

Borussia Dortmund welcomes Hertha Berlin on Saturday as the 2019-20 Bundesliga campaign rolls on — still without fans in the stadiums due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Even so, Borussia Dortmund has come out of the hiatus nicely, keeping pace with Bundesliga leaders Bayern Munich. Even so, Dortmund is seven points behind the leaders, but just four points clear of fifth place, as RB Leipzig, Borussia Monchengladbach and Bayer Leverkusen are all playing well, looking to chase those coveted slots in the Champions League. Take a look at our Bundesliga betting preview of this German first division soccer match as you consider your wagering options for the coming weekend.

Hertha vs Dortmund Odds & Picks – June 6 2020

Why should you put your money on Hertha Berlin?

Hertha Berlin rolls in on the momentum of a 2-0 home win over Augsburg on Saturday. To be fair, Augsburg is closer to the bottom of the Bundesliga table than the top, but it is important to take care of business against all comers, and Hertha Berlin put up a nice clean sheet in the win. Javairo Dilrosun got the hosts on the board in the 23rd minute, and it looked like the match would end in 1-0 fashion until Krzysztof Piatek talled in injury time at the end of the second half to give Hertha Berlin a bit of insurance.

Possession was virtually even in the match, as were shots. Hertha launched 10, to just nine for Augsburg, and Hertha put five on frame, while Augsburg had four on target. The play was spirited, to say the least, as the teams combined for 26 fouls — 19 on Hertha alone. The teams each drew three yellow card cautions as it became clear that physical play would dominate the match. If you like Hertha to post what would be a considerable upset, then you see them using their physicality to pull Dortmund into a bit of a grindfest, as they seem to have done against Augsburg.

Why should you bet on Borussia Dortmund?

While Hertha does come in with some momentum, Dortmund also comes in having taken down one of the Bundesliga bottom-feeders in their last match. Paderborn, sitting in 18th place (dead last) in the table, welcomed Dortmund on Sunday and found themselves on the wrong end of a 6-1 tattooing. Interestingly, the game was scoreless at halftime, as both teams felt each other out and Paderborn had answers for Dortmund’s incursions. At the 54th minute, though, the dam broke. Thorgan Hazard scored for the visitors, and then Jadon Sancho tallied just three minutes later. Uwe Hunemeier converted from the spot for Paderborn in the 72nd minute to make it 2-1, but then Dortmund stepped even harder on the gas. Sancho added a goal two minutes after that penalty kick, and then Achraf Hakimi made it 4-1 in the 85th minute. Four minutes later, Marcel Schmelzer scored, and then Sancho completed his hat trick in injury time, turning what had been a close match into a laugher.

For the match, Dortmund possessed for 59 percent of the game and outshot Paderborn 16-6 (10-1 on target). The game was fairly clean, with just ten fouls combined, but the teams got their money’s worth on the fouls that were called, as they combined for five yellow card cautions. Dortmund started to apply more pressure than Paderborn, forcing eight corners. It is hard to see Dortmund not unleashing this offense on Hertha as well.

Hertha Berlin vs Borussia Dortmund Final Score Prediction

We have two teams that have come out of the COVID-19 hiatus playing solid soccer. However, the difference in talent and in offensive execution will ensure that Dortmund puts together a win here. I predict a final score of Dortmund 3, Hertha 1.
