And then there were eight. The 47-team Leagues Cup is down to the quarterfinal round, set for Saturday at four different sites.
Six of the eight remaining teams are from Major League Soccer, with Liga MX down to just two representatives.
The outliers here are the Philadelphia Union, mired in tenth place in MLS’ Eastern Conference standings but now in the last eight in this tournament, while defending champions Inter Miami and FC Cincinnati, the top two teams in the MLS East, have already been sent home.

Columbus Crew -125 vs New York City FC +333
90-min Draw +275
Saturday, August 17, 5:00 pm ET
Columbus stopped Inter Miami, 3-2, in the Round of 16, to send the defending Leagues Cup champions home. They were actually down a goal going into halftime, but their three tallies after the intermission brought the win. They’ve scored seven goals in this tournament – six after halftime. Likewise, they now have at least three goals in three straight matches across all competitions, including a 4-1 romp in a friendly against Aston Villa. Not only that, but they haven’t lost at home since May, when FC Cincinnati took a 2-1 win in the Hell is Real Derby. The defense has been a bit shaky, permitting multiple goals in two of the three Leagues Cup knockout matches.
NYCFC also went down early against Tigres, permitting the opener just 17 minutes in. However, it took just three minutes to draw level, and then NYCFC got the game-winner in the 65th minute. NYCFC had not permitted the opening goal before coming back to win in normal time since April, when they came back to beat Charlotte FC, 2-1. The NYCFC defense has improved since that group stage nightmare against FC Cincinnati, posting clean sheets in the second half of their last two Leagues Cup matches. This team has an eight-match winless streak on the road – and have been blanked in three of those. They are still looking for their first win at Lower.com Field against Columbus – their last win in the city at all came at Historic Crew Stadium in 2017.
Leagues Cup Pick: Crew to win.
^Philadelphia Union -120 vs Mazatlan +310
90-min Draw +280
Saturday, August 17, 6:30 pm ET
The Union are back in the Leagues Cup semifinals for the second straight year as they continue to defy the odds, at least compared to their MLS performance. They ousted FC Cincinnati, 4-2, behind a second-half surge as their counterattacking paid off with four goals after the intermission. They have a six-match unbeaten streak after normal time and a seven-match streak with goals scored. Furthermore, they have only ever lost at home once against a Mexican side, back in 2021 when they lost to Club America in the CONCACAF Champions League semifinals.
Mazatlan built a 2-0 lead, only to see it evaporate before the sides headed to penalty kicks. They bounced back and prevailed, 3-1. In four fixtures in Leagues Cup play, they have not permitted a second-half goal, but they also haven’t scored after the intermission either. Like Philadelphia, they were struggling entering the tournament, with a six-match winless streak that became seven when they lost their group opener to New England, but they have found winning ways since then.
Leagues Cup Pick: Philadelphia to win.
^Seattle Sounders +160 vs LAFC +160
90-min Draw +240
Saturday, August 17, 7:00 pm ET
Both of these teams cruised through their Round of 16 matchups as Seattle routed Pumas, 4-0, and LAFC breezed by San Jose, 4-1. The Sounders’ win was their largest ever in the Leagues Cup and their second-biggest across all competitions in 2024. The last time the Sounders made a Leagues Cup quarterfinal, back in 2021, they went all the way to the final before losing, 2-1, to Club Leon. At home, they have won all four of their Leagues Cup knockout matches in the history of the tournament, winning by a combined 11-1.
LAFC have three wins in four Leagues Cup matches, with two clean sheets among those three wins. Last year, they got to the quarterfinals and went up 2-0 at the half against Monterrey, only to fall 3-2 after a second-half collapse. They have an eight-match unbeaten streak against Seattle across all competitions and have posted three straight clean sheets at Lumen Field.
Leagues Cup Pick: Seattle to win.
^Club America +130 vs Colorado Rapids +240
90-min Draw +210
Saturday, August 17, 9:00 pm ET
Club America needed three late goals to come back from a deficit and oust St. Louis City SC, 4-2, in their Round of 16 match. Colorado also benefited from a late tally to send Toluca home, 2-1. Club America manager Andre Jardine took out Henry Martin, who was tied for the most goals scored in the Liga MX Apertura. Jardine’s subs all together scored two goals in the last 11 minutes plus injury time.
Colorado is in the Leagues Cup quarterfinals for the first time with one-goal wins in each of their knockout matches. They opened Leagues Cup play by taking a 4-0 thumping from Portland, but they’ve done nothing but win since then. They have a perfect record against Liga MX teams in this Leagues Cup, but they have never won an away fixture in this tournament either.
Leagues Cup Pick: Club America to win.
