This week begins with the Liga MX Top Bets! Cruz Azul had to find a different stadium for this season as historic Estadio Azteca started undergoing renovations ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
They moved to Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes, but for the Liga MX Clausura 2025, they will move to the Estadio Olimpico Universitario, where rivals Pumas play, so that they can keep their games in Mexico City.
Cruz Azul had run into some problems at Estadio Ciudad de los Deportes.
For example, the stadium was temporarily closed back in November because a game was scheduled at the same time as a concert at the Monumental Plaza de Toros Mexico – a double-booking forbidden by law.
Also, Cruz Azul was having to give up about 42% of their revenues from “home” matches to the stadium owners.
The owners offered to take a smaller cut, but Cruz Azul has opted to move all the same.
The team would love to win a 10th Liga MX title this season, despite playing without a home stadium; another goal for the club is building a permanent stadium in Mexico City.
As we head into Matchday 4 of Liga MX’s 2025 Clausura, take a look at our top sports betting picks.
Soccer Betting: Liga MX Top Bets for the Week 4
Leon (+175) vs Guadalajara (+162) (Draw +240)
Liga MX Prediction: Leon to win
When: Tuesday, January 28, 10:00 pm ET
Colombian national midfielder James Rodriguez has brought positive change to Club Leon, thanks to his brilliant playmaking. Leon have six points out of two matches (holding a match in hand). They started the 2025 Clausura with a 2-1 win over Atlas in Rodriguez’s debut. They followed that up with a 1-0 win over Juarez, and Rodriguez provided the match’s only tally.
Guadalajara have four points out of three matches – one win, one draw and one loss. They started the Clausura with a 1-0 win over Santos Laguna. Their second match was a thriller against Necaxa, but Guadalajara fell, 3-2. In their last action, they drew Tigres, 1-1. The hot start that Rodriguez has brought Leon should continue at home this week, so I’m taking them with the slight value edge.
^Necaxa (+290) vs Cruz Azul (-105) (Draw +275)
Liga MX Prediction: Necaxa to win
When: Tuesday, January 28, 10:05 pm ET
Necaxa enter this week looking for their third win in the Clausura, while Cruz Azul are the relatively heavy favorites despite starting this phase with a three-match winless streak. Necaxa started the Clausura with a 2-1 loss to Pumas UNAM, but then they beat Guadalajara, 3-2, at home, and then they routed Atletico San Luis, 3-0, last week. Necaxa struggled in the Apertura, finishing 13th and missing the playoffs altogether.
Cruz Azul made it to the Apertura semifinals, but they lost to Club America in the two-leg tie, opening with a goalless draw but falling, 4-3, in the second leg. They are still looking to bounce back from that loss. Cruz Azul have won 17 of the last 36 meetings between these two teams, while Necaxa has won just a dozen, with seven ties. Cruz Azul have a four-match winless streak on the road, with two losses and two draws since a 2-0 win at Pumas back in October. Necaxa have had the hot hand on offense so far in the Clausura, with seven goals in three matches. I’m going with the value here.
^Pumas UNAM (+125) vs Toluca (+210) (Draw +260)
Liga MX Prediction: Take the draw
When: Wednesday, January 29, 10:05 pm ET
Pumas UNAM only have a win, a draw and a loss for four points out of three matches in the young Clausura campaign. Their goal differential is an even zero, showing that there is both balance and inconsistency in their approach. They have a perfect record at home so far, with one win in one match in front of their fans. They lost at Gallos Blancos, 3-2, in their last action, as their back line showed some cracks that the team needs to deal with going forward. Furthermore, they’re trying to balance a creative offensive approach with discipline on defense. In their last five matches across all competitions, they have two wins and three losses, so there is room for improvement.
Toluca have four points out of three matches, with a +2 goal differential. They sit second in the Clausura table as things have started well. They lost in their last outing, falling 2-1 to Mazatlan FC. Furthermore, they like to play an aggressive offensive style, pushing high up the pitch and preferring quick transitions. This work for them more often than not – they have two wins, a draw and two losses in their last five matches across all competitions. With the Clausura still in the early going and these two teams playing fairly inconsistently, I’m maximizing value.

Liga MX Top Bets: Best Futures and Props for the Week
Leon vs Guadalajara – Alan Pulido anytime scorer (+180)
Guadalajara brought in this forward from MLS’ Sporting KC for a transfer fee. He was a Designated Player with them from 2020-24, notching 38 goals and 19 assists across 108 matches. He is ninth in Sporting KC’s franchise record books with 35 regular season goals, and he helped the side to the MLS playoffs in 2020, 2021 and 2023.
In the 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs, he posted three assists in the two-game sweep of St. Louis City SC as Sporting pulled off the upset of the conference’s top-seeded team. Pulido played with Guadalajara from 2016-2019 before going to Kansas City. He should add some scoring punch to the Guadalajara roster, although he has yet to score yet.
^Leon vs Guadalajara – Leon wins by a 2-1 score (+950)
Both of these teams have been scoring as they like to push the ball down the field. Both have been prone to letting in goals as their back lines have not been all that watertight. These teams are close in the standings, and this should feature conservative play at the beginning until the teams start to find those cracks in their opponents’ systems. While this prop requires an exact outcome for you to win, this combination fo offensive performance and defensive discipline fits this showdown.
^Necaxa vs Cruz Azaul – Giorgos Giakoumakis, anytime scorer (+110)
You don’t get a lot of value out of this wager, but the Greek national’s scoring has been elite. In 19 Liga MX matches in 2024-25, he has seven goals and four assists. He started 2024 with MLS’ Atlanta United, where he scored five goals and an assist in 11 matches before heading down to Liga MX.
In 2023, he played 30 games for Atlanta United, with 19 goals and a pair of assists. With Celtic in the Scottish Premiership, he had 19 goals and two assists in 40 matches across two seasons, and in Scottish League Cup play, he had two goals in three matches. So he can find ways to finish.
^Pumas UNAM vs Toluca – Guillermo Martinez Ayala, anytime scorer (+140)
In 41 matches over the last two seasons, Martinez Ayala has scored 13 goals and notched an assist for Pumas. Given their fairly dominant play over the last couple of seasons, there should be some room for him to operate against Tuloca.
