One of the more impressive feats of the 2024 MLS season to this point is the staying power of FC Cincinnati. Half of their first-choice starters from a year ago are gone. Striker Brandon Vazquez went south of the border to Monterrey. Junior Moreno went to Saudi Arabia. Center back Yerson Mosquera went back to EPL club Wolves. Wingbacks Alvaro Barreal and Santiago Arias went to Brazil. Even so, the defending Supporters’ Shield winners, who averaged 2.03 points per match a year ago, are now averaging 2.06 in 2024. The 3-4-1-2 formation remains the same, even if half of the starters are new. One of the biggest bonuses has come from Luca Orellano, the new left wingback who has even more offensive firepower than Barreal did. Heading into this weekend, don’t miss our sports betting insights on a couple of the league’s matches.
MLS Odds Games: Potential Value Bets for This Weekend
Inter Miami vs St Louis City
When: Saturday, June 1, 7:30 pm ET
Inter had a 10-game unbeaten streak end this week, but they look to begin a new one on saturday. Inter sits atop the Eastern Conference and the Supporters’ Shield standings while St. Louis is having a tough sophomore season after an electrifying run as an expansion team last year. Inter won at Vancouver last week, 2-1, but on Wednesday they lay an egg against Atlanta United, losing to a team that had a nine-match winless streak going in MLS play. Miami controlled possession but was either fatigued or disinterested, and the team needs to get back into a good place with Lionel Messi and several other important players about to leave for duty with their international teams. Messi did score on Wednesday and is now tied with teammate Luis Suarez at 11 goals in MLS play.
St. Louis City sits in 11th place in the Western Conference and has slid out of a playoff spot with three consecutive losses. They lost to FC Cincinnati, 3-1, on Sunday, and they also fell to Seattle in the middle of the week, allowing two goals in four minutes in the middle of the second half. On the road, St. Louis has just four draws and two losses in six matches, so it will be interesting to see what kind of momentum they can build.
MLS Pick to Win: Inter
Chicago Fire vs LA Galaxy
When: Saturday, June 1, 8:30 pm ET
Chicago enters this match on an eight-match winless skid while the Galaxy have not lost in six matches. On Wednesday, Chicago settled for a 1-1 draw against Orlando City. The visitors scored in the fourth minute, but Hugo Cuypers found the equalizer in the 71st minute to take a point. The Fire’s last win came back in April, a 2-1 tense home victory over the Houston Dynamo. The Fire have a hard time finishing; their attacking record is the second-worst in MLS, with just 15 goals scored. The worst team (New England) has scored just nine goals. Getting just 12 points out of 16 matches, Chicago sit in 14th place in the East. They are five points above New England for dead last. Oh, and they haven’t beaten the Galaxy since 2010.
The Galaxy have a six-match unbeaten streak, following up four draws with wins over Houston and Dallas. They have picked up 28 points from their first 16 matches. In their last 13 MLS meetings, the Galaxy have picked up eight wins and five draws. Both of the L.A. losses in 2024, though, have come on the road. The only Galaxy player on the shelf is Joseph Paintsil (hamstring). Dejan Jovelijic posted a brace last week against FC Dallas and looks to keep that hot streak going.
MLS Pick to Win: Galaxy
