Tennis Betting Analysis for Millennium Estoril Open

Written by on April 3, 2023

The Millennium Estoril Open, a clay court tournament that is part of the ATP Tour 250 series, got underway with qualifying matches this past weekend and the Round of 32 starting on Monday, April 3, and continuing into Tuesday. The top four seeds received a bye into the Round of 16, and we’ve already seen a seeded player go down, as 7-seed Diego Schwartzman was upset by Marco Cecchinato, 3-6, 6-7 (8-10). Let’s look at the men’s singles draw going forward as you consider your tennis betting on the remainder of the tournament.

The following four seeds received byes to the Round of 16:

  • (6) M. Kecmanovic vs. L. Nardi (7:00 am ET)
  • C. Lestienne vs (8) B. Shelton (7:00 am ET)
  • B. Zapata Miralles vs H. Rocha (7:00 am ET)
  • D. Thiem vs. S. Ofner (8:20 am ET)
  • L. Van Assche vs. P. Sousa (8:20 am ET)
  • J. Rodionov vs. A. Ramos-Vinolas (9:40 am ET)
  • G. Zeppieri vs. J. Sousa (9:40 am ET)
  • N. Borges vs. Q. Halys (11:00 am ET)

The matchup between Dominic Thiem and Sebastian Ofner in the Round of 32 is intriguing. Thiem is winless in his last five matches, all either on clay or hardcourt. This includes losses at the Miami open, the BNP Paribas Open (both on hard courts), the Movistar Chile Open, the Rio Open and the Argentina Open (all three on clay). The two have met once since the start of 2022, with Thiem winning, but Ofner has four wins in his last five matches, including two wins in the qualifying rounds here. Because of the value, I’d go with Ofner to win the upset, given that Thiem is just here on a wild-card and is clearly struggling.

Unseeded Bernabe Zapata Miralles faces qualifier Henrique Rocha in the Round of 32. Zapata Miralles has won two of his last three on clay, including a win over 7-seed Albert Ramos-Vinolas at the Rio Open on February 24. That win got Zapata Miralles into the semifinals, where he lost to 2-seed Cameron Norrie in straight sets. Zapata Miralles also stopped 4-seed Francisco Cerundolo in the round of 16 in that tournament. He then dropped first-round matches at the BNP Paribas Open and the Miami Open, but both of those events are played on hard courts. Rocha won both of his qualifying matches in straight sets, but looking back at Zapata Miralles’ clay track record in recent tournaments, I’m going with Zapata Miralles to win.

(6) Miomir Kecmanovic makes his Estoril Open debut against Luca Nardi. Kecmanovic is 8-8 so far in 2023, including a third-round appearance at the Miami Open, where he ended a three-match skid that included losses in the Delray Beach Open and in the first round at Acapulco and Indian Wells. At Delray Beach, Kecmanovic pushed Taylor Fritz to three sets. Nardi has played primarily on the Challenger Tour this season; in his only ATP match this season, he lost at Montpellier. He did get to the quarterfinals of the Bengaluru Challenger and the final at Pune. Given the variance in their recent competition, give me Kecmanovic to win.
