ATP Betting Odds: The Summer Olympics have just come to an end, and we’re still a couple of weeks away from the U.S. Open in New York City, but professional tennis (and the sports betting opportunities it offers) is still up and running.
The Cincinnati Open has a star-studded men’s singles draw; the main notable not attending is Novak Djokovic, who has earned a rest after beating Carlos Alcaraz to complete a career Golden Slam (wins at all four Grand Slams plus the Olympics).
We have the odds for victory in the men’s singles draw for your consideration, followed by insights about some of the contenders.
ATP Betting Odds: Cincinnati Open Preview – Men’s Singles
With this draw, the excitement begins in the first round. Reilly Opelka and Ben Shelton square off in an All-American duel. Holger Rune meets Matteo Berrettini, Ugo Humbert faces Jordan Thompson, Nicolas Jarry plays Lorenzo Musetti, and Pablo Carreno Busta must deal with Sebastian Korda. The top five seeds are Jannik Sinner, Carlos Alcaraz, Alexander Zverev, Daniil Medvedev, and Hubert Hurkacz (in order).Sinner vs Zverev
In the top half of the draw, we project that Sinner will face Zverev in the eventual semifinal. Sinner has a bye through the first round, where he could see Griekspoor (a talented qualifier). After that, he could see Marcos Giron or Ugo Humbert, if seeding holds. The quarterfinals could bring him Taylor Fritz or Andrey Rublev. As well as Sinner has played this season, he should be able to work through to the semifinal. ^Grigor Dimitrov
On the other side of the top half, Dimitrov could threaten Zverev’s progression. Those two should meet in the quarterfinal, if seeds hold, but Shelton, Korda and Opelka could all emerge as dark horses. Shelton’s big serve has helped him make deeper runs than expected in previous Grand Slams. Zverev has had a terrific 2024, including advancing to the final at the French Open and winning his sixth Masters tournament in Rome. ^Carlos Alcaraz
In the bottom half of the draw, Alcaraz will have a lot of people gunning for him. He stars with either Alexei Popyrin or Gael Monfils thanks to his bye. The players between him and the quarterfinal also include Holger Rune, Adrian Mannarino and Matteo Berrettini – all challenging but manageable. The quarterfinal should bring either Casper Ruud, Stefanos Tsitsipas, or Felix Auger-Aliassime, the last of whom could end up providing the greatest challenge. The other side of the bottom half has Daniil Medvedev, Hubert Hurkacz, Lorenzo Musetti and Tommy Paul. Hurkacz has played inconsistent tennis recently, which is why we think Paul and Medvedev are likeliest to get to the quarterfinals. Can Paul make it to the semifinal? This is likely the best shot an American has to get that far in this bracket. If seeding holds and Alcaraz and Sinner meet in the final, I would expect Alcaraz to bounce back from his Olympic loss and finish the job, although if the value is high enough and Sinner has played dominant enough tennis in his run through the bracket, I might take the Italian – after all, he didn’t reach #1 in the world without solid play at an elite level. ^✅First Round
