The 2021 French Open will take place a week later than originally planned, after the government opted to push the tournament back. Now the tournament will run from May 24 until June 13. The “King of Clay,” Rafael Nadal, comes in after winning the Barcelona Open, needing three sets to beat Stefanos Tsitsipas in an explosive match. Nadal will turn 35 years old during the 2021 French Open and has matched Roger Federer in Grand Slam titles. Federer is set to return to play at Roland Garros, and his potential matchup with a player widely considered to be the best ever on clay could be the most exciting moment in the men’s draw. The three men’s favorites right now are Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Dominic Thiem; on the women’s side, the top favorites are Iga Swiatek, Garbine Muguruza and Simona Halep.
Let’s take a look at some early Tennis betting odds in men’s and women’s singles as well as some thoughts about the tournament.

Why is Nadal such a heavy favorite? He has 13 titles, and he won in 2020 without losing a single set throughout the entire draw. Novak Djokovic was his opponent in the final a year ago, and he won the Australian Open, taking down Daniil Medvedev in the final. Dominic Thiem won his first Grand Slam last year, prevailing at the U.S. Open. His play is even better suited for clay, so he’s in the top three on the odds list on his own merit. Daniil Medvedev has developed a style of play that is not forgiving for mistakes, but he has gone home in the first round in every French Open appearance. Roger Federer is coming back from an extended layoff, returning on the surface he likes least, perhaps in the hopes of peaking when the series moves to Wimbledon.
The women’s side, as usual, is much more difficult to handicap. Swiatek returns as the defending champion on the women’s side, the youngest winner since Monica Seles. Simona Halep has made three finals at the French Open, winning once. Her court coverage and stamina make her a threat on the clay. Ashleigh Barty is the top-ranked player in the world, and she has won the French Open in the past. Naomi Osaka, at the age of 23, has already won four Grand Slams. However, she has left the French Open in the first round twice in her last four matches.
