French Open Betting for the Top 3 Favorites Men’s & Women’s Singles

Written by on May 23, 2024

Two icons of men’s professional tennis have announced that they will make their last appearance at Roland Garros this year as the French Open is set to open Sunday with first-round matchups. One of them is Rafael Nadal, who holds the record for men’s singles titles with 14, and he opens with a difficult opponent – fourth-seeded Alexander Zverev. The other player bidding good-bye to Roland Garros is Great Britain’s Andy Murray. He has only played here once in the last eight years, losing in 2021 to Stan Wawrinka in the first round. He will open against Wawrinka again this time arround. The defending men’s singles champion, Novak Djokovic, opens against wild-care entrant Pierre-Hugues Herbert, and the defending women’s singles champion, Iga Swiatek, starts her chase for a threepeat against either a qualifier or a lucky loser. Let’s take a look at the three French Open Betting favorites in the men’s and women’s singles draws, along with our thoughts on the top contenders.

French Open Betting Top 3 Favorites to consider in the Roland Garros 2024 | Tennis Odds

Men’s Singles French Open Betting

  • Carlos Alcaraz +250
  • Novak Djokovic +300
  • Jannik Sinner +460

You can also take a prop that has either Djokovic or Alcaraz to win at -105. Sinner won the Australian Open. Alcaraz, of course, has made it known that he wants to be the greatest men’s tennis player ever. He has a long way to go to catch Nadal’s record at the French Open, as well as Djokovic’s record of 24 Grand Slam titles. He has yet to win a title (or even reach a final) at Roland Garros, but he started out as a young player on the clay. Djokovic stopped him in the semifinals last year, but then Alcaraz got revenge by stopping Djokovic on the faster grass surface at Wimbledon.

This year, on the clay courts, Alcaraz has had a difficult season. A forearm injury forced him to withdraw from the Monte Carlo Masters and the Barcelona Open. At Madrid, he tried to defend his title, but he lost in the quarterfinals before opting out of the Italian Open.

Djokovic also had a tough time at the Italian Open. A fan threw a water bottle that struck Djokovinc on the head, and the resulting dizziness and nausea caused Djokovic to fall out of the tournament. Sinner also pulled out of the Italian Open before the first round due to a hip injury. Outside the top three, Daniil Medvedev, ranked fifth in the world, also has a nagging hip injury. This means that there could be a great deal of chaos in the men’s singles draw. It also means that Alcaraz could take advantage of some weakness among the other elite competitors. He did beat Medvedev to defend hs Indian Wells title.

French Open Betting Women’s Singles

  • Iga Swiatek -170
  • Aryna Sabalenka +500
  • Coco Gauff +800

Swiatek is the heavy favorite for a reason as she has won three of the last four women’s singles titles (2020, 2022, and 2023). In 2021, she bowed out in the quarterfinals. She also has a Grand Slam title on hardcourt surfaces (the 2022 U.S. Open), but the clay seems to be where she shines. Her path out of the bracket gets tricky early on as she could see one-time #1 Naomi Osaka, who has four Grand Slam titles of her own, in the second round. Swiatek is 4-0 in Grand Slam finals and has 21 total WTA singles titles, nine of which came on the clay – including wins at Rome and Madrid this season. She is the youngest woman to win 20 or more singles titles since Caroline Wozniacki did it in 2012.

Sabalenka has two Grand Slam titles, both on the hardcourts at the Australian Open. She made it to the semifinals at Roland Garros last year but had not made it past the third round in the four previous French Opens. Her draw could see her play the likes of Sloane Stephens, Maria Sakkari and Madison Keys en route to a possible final matchup with Swiatek. She saw Swiatek in the finals at Rome and Madrid, falling short both times. In her last 10 Grand Slam tournaments, she has an overall 50-8 record after going just 16-14 in her first 14 Grand Slam tournaments, and she has gotten to at least the semifinals in six straight Grand Slams.

Gauff made the quarterfinals here in 2021 and 2023 and the final in 2022, where she lost to Swiatek. If she makes it to the semifinals, she could see Swiatek again. She has made the semifinals or further at two straight majors, the first time she’s pulled that off back-to-back in her developing career. She is the defending U.S. Open women’s singles champion, becoming the first American teen to win there since 1999 when Serena Williams pulled it off. She changed coaches to Brad Gilbert after the 2023 Wimbledon debacle, when she crashed out in the first round, and her performances have improved.
