Carlos Alcaraz -175 vs Jannik Sinner +131

When: Friday, June 7, 8:30 am ET

This will be the ninth all-time meeting between these two rising stars – all time, the series stands at four wins apiece, so this should be exciting tennis. Their last meeting at a Grand Slam came in 2022 at the quarterfinals of the U.S. Open. Both of these players have already won a major, but Alcaraz would be the youngest player to win three majors on three different playing surfaces (grass, clay and hardcourt). In an era that has seen such dominant players as Nadal, Djokovic and Roger Federer, that would be an amazing feat. Sinner will be the top-ranked player in the world at the end of the tournament after Djokovic’s withdrawal. Both Alcaraz (forearm) and Sinner (hip) entered the French Open with some injury concerns, but those haven’t emerged on the court yet.

Sinner got to the semifinals after stopping Grigor Dimitrov in three sets and has only dropped one set in the entire tournament, as Corentin Moutet pushed him to a fourth set in the fourth round. Sinner has a perfect 12-0 record in major tournaments so far in 2024, including his title at the Australian Open. Against Dimitrov, Sinner only committed 20 unforced errors, and now he’s playing with house money, as this is his first year to get past the quarterfinals at Roland Garros.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz eliminated Stefanos Tsitsipas to get to his first semi at Roland Garros. Alcaraz had a perfect 5-0 record against Tsitsipas, who has yet to solve Alcaraz’s forehand. Alcaraz was wearing a brace on his forearm but still used that forearm to his advantage, only allowing two break points. In his four Grand Slam semifinals, Alcaraz has a 2-2 record; in this tournament, he has only dropped one set, and that came against qualifier Jesper de Jong, who pushed him to four sets.

French Open Pick: Alcaraz wins in four sets

Casper Ruud -104 vs Alexander Zverev -127

When: Friday, June 7, 11:30 am ET

These two are clashing in a French Open semifinal for the second straight season. Zverev beat Alex de Minaur in straight sets. That was a nice breather after Holger Rune pushed him to five sets in the prior round. Zverev is in his fourth French Open semifinal in a row. However, he has never made it to a final here. He also got to the semis at the Australian Open earlier this year and failed to make the final. He has just a 1-6 record in Grand Slam semifinals, with his lone win coming back in 2020 at the U.S. Open, where he needed to come back from two sets down to oust Pablo Carreno Busta.

Ruud got a bit of a rest, advancing to the semifinals when Djokovic withdrew before their quarterfinal showdown. Taylor Fritz pushed him to four sets in the fourth round, as Ruud committed seven double faults. However, Ruud pushed Fritz to 27 break points and converted six of them. Ruud has a perfect 3-0 record in semifinal matches at majors; he won the semis at the 2022 French and U.S. Opens and the 2023 French as well. He’s still waiting for his first title, though, and he has been pushed to four sets in each match since he dusted off Felipe Meligeni Alves in straight sets in the opener.

French Open Pick: Ruud in five sets
