2023 Infosys Hall of Fame Open Betting Preview

Written by on July 17, 2023

The Infosys Hall of Fame Open is set for this week at the International Tennis Hall of Fame in Newport, Rhode Island. This men’s tournament is an ATP 250 event and has a 28-player singles draw and a 16-team doubles tournament, and it winds up the grass season on the ATP Tour. It’s the only tournament on grass outside Europe. Interestingly, no top seed had ever won the tournament until 2011, when John Isner took the title (one of four championships he’s won here), but this may have to do with the timing of the event, a week after Wimbledon, which causes a lot of the top players in the world to skip the event and take a break after the Grand Slam. Let’s look at the 2023 field and go over some tennis betting thoughts about this year’s tournament.

Tennis Betting News: Infosys Hall of Fame Open Preview

The top seed is Tommy Paul, who grew up in Newport and who advanced to the third round at Wimbledon. An interesting entry is Kevin Anderson, who has made it to two Grand Slam finals and is coming out of retirement at the age of 37, a little over a year after he walked away from tennis. The Hall of Fame Open gave him a wildcard entry to enter the bracket of 32.

Maxime Cressy is the defending champion after winning his first ATP Tour title here a year ago. The second and third seeds are Frenchmen Adrian Mannarino and Ugo Humbert, respectively. Mackenzie McDonald is the fourth seed. Because of the 28-player bracket, these four players will get a bye into the second round.

In addition to Cressy, some of the other notables in the tournament are Corentin Moutet, Jordan Thompson, and Max Purcell. Christopher Eubanks had entered the tournament but decided to withdraw after his run at Wimbledon went longer than expected.

Qualifying rounds took place on Sunday, July 16, and the draw is set, with the first round action starting on Monday, July 17. The semifinals are scheduled for Saturday, July 22, which is when the induction ceremony for the Hall of Fame will also occur. The finals will take place on Sunday, July 23. The winner will receive $97,760 from the total prize purse of $642,735, and the winner also gets 250 ranking points.

First Round Matches and Odds

Liam Broady vs Shintaro Mochizuki

When: Monday, July 17 at 11:00 am ET
Where: International Tennis Hall of Fame, Rhode Island
TV / Streaming: TennisChannel

This is the first matchup between these two players; we last read about Broady when he stopped 4-seed Casper Ruud in the second round at Wimbledon. Now he faces Shintaro Mochizuki, the world’s 192nd ranked player who is still looking to win for the first time on the tour level. He looked decent on grass in qualifying at Wimbledon, but it’s hard to see him lasting in rallies from the baseline with Broady. Broady wins in straight sets.

Bet on Liam Broady (-210) vs Shintaro Mochizuki (+170)!

Aleksander Kovacevic vs Jordan Thompson

When: Monday, July 17 at 12:20 pm ET
Where: International Tennis Hall of Fame, Rhode Island
TV / Streaming: TennisChannel

At the tour level, Jordan Thompson has gone just 10-13 this year. He has a 16-3 career level on the Challenger Tour, though, and that’s the level where Kovacevic has spent most of his career. Kovacevic has a dangerous serve, but when the rallies extend on grass, he should wear down. Thompson wins in three sets.

Bet on Aleksander Kovacevic (+250) vs (7) Jordan Thompson (-325)!

Abdullah Shelbayh vs Rinky Hijikata

When: Monday, July 17 at 1:40 pm ET
Where: International Tennis Hall of Fame, Rhode Island
TV / Streaming: TennisChannel

Rinky Hijikata has an 8-5 record on grass in 2023, and his first-round opponent is a 19-year-old who is really just starting his pro tennis career. Shelbayh is a left-hander who played for the University of Florida and has a lot of different shots in his arsenal, but I think Hijikata will take on Shelbayh’s backhand and force enough mistakes to roll. Hijikata wins in straight sets.

Bet on Abdullah Shelbayh (+165) vs Rinky Hijikata (-200)!

Eliot Spizzirri vs Corentin Moutet

When: Monday, July 17 at 3:00 pm ET
Where: International Tennis Hall of Fame, Rhode Island
TV / Streaming: TennisChannel

Eliot Spizzirri played for the University of Texas last season and was the top-ranked collegiate player in the United States for most of the 2022-23 campaign. He has lost both of his Challenger matches this summer, but he has the skills to make this hard for Moutet. Will they be hard enough for him to get a break, win a tiebreaker or even get the upset? Moutet wins in straight sets.

Bet on Eliot Spizzirri (+650) vs (8) Corentin Moutet (-1000)!

Tuesday, July 18

  • Gabriel Diallo (-150) vs Kevin Anderson (+125) (10:00 am ET)
  • James Duckworth (-130) vs Constant. Lestienne (+110) (10:00 am ET)
  • Alex Michelsen (+170) vs (5) Maxime Cressy (-210) (10:00 am ET)
  • (6) Max Purcell (-135) vs Gijs Brouwer (+113) (10:00 am ET)
