US Open Picks 2024: Decoding Favorites, Contenders, and Longshot Hopefuls

Written by on July 19, 2024

Here you can find all the ATP US Open Picks! With Wimbledon now in the rearview mirror, it’s time for sports betting enthusiasts in the world of tennis to look ahead to the last Grand Slam of 2024 – the U.S. Open, which will run from August 26 to September 28.

The top two wagering choices in the men’s singles draw are Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz, who battled it out in the Wimbledon final.

Jannik Sinner is right behind them on the odds list, and he’s still ranked #1 in the ATP rankings.

Others include Daniil Medvedev and Rafael Nadal, depending on how his aging body deals with the trials of Olympic play.

Let’s take a look at some early odds and some thoughts about your picks.

US Open Picks The Favorites

Carlos Alcaraz +141

Alcaraz has won the last two Wimbledon titles and also won the French Open earlier this year. He won the U.S. Open in 2022.

His, 2024 record is 33-6, and he also won the trophy at Indian Wells. He’s the heavy favorite for a reason.

Novak Djokovic +179

Djokovic is 37, and he’s dealing with recovery from a torn meniscus, but he came back just weeks after that surgery and rolled to the final at Wimbledon.

In 2023, he won three Grand Slams, including the U.S. Open for the fourth time. However, Alcaraz stopped Djokovic at Wimbledon and Jannik Sinner stopped him at the Australian Open.

His knee injury stopped him at the French Open. Is he really getting enough value here?

Jannik Sinner +222

Sinner is right behind Djokovic on most of the odds list.

He won his first major at the start of 2024, ousting Djokovic in the semifinals down under and then beating Daniil Medvedev for the title.

Sinner got to the semifinals at the French Open this year and Wimbledon a year ago.

US Open Picks Other Contenders

Daniil Medvedev +540

Medvedev has a 75% career winning percentage in hardcourt matches.

In 2023, he went 34-6 on the surface with three titles, and he has a U.S. Open trophy on his mantel, dating back to 2021.

He went to the final last year.

Holger Rune +3900

Rune has had a tougher time on hardcourt surfaces, with a 51% career winning percentage.

He went just 9-8 on hardcourts in 2023. He’s never gotten past the third round at Flushing Meadows, and he got bounced in the opening round last year.

US Open Picks The Long Shots

Casper Ruud +3400

Ruud is much better on clay than grass or the hardcourts. He did come in second at the 2022 U.S. Open, but Djokovic wasn’t there because of his COVID-19 vaccination status.

Once you get past these top three, though, Ruud is a very consistent performer.

If you don’t want to take him to win the whole thing, you might also look at the odds of him to win his quarter of the bracket and get to the semifinals.

Ben Shelton +3900

Shelton has all kinds of talent, but when it comes to match mentality and point strategy, he has a long way to go.

He does tend to play better at majors, and the raucous New York crowd is a bit different from what you find at Roland Garros or the All England Club.

If you can get some value on betting on him to get to the quarterfinals or the semifinals, that might make sense, especially given his titanic serve.
