US Open 2024 Betting Odds: Don't Overlook These Underdogs

US Open 2024 Betting Odds: Don’t Overlook These Underdogs

Written by on August 8, 2024

US Open Betting Analysis: The world of professional tennis is tough on sports betting sleepers right now. In men’s singles, a final that lacks both Novak Djokovic and Carlos Alcaraz is beyond rare.

In women’s singles, Iga Świątek has been virtually unstoppable on every surface other than grass, although her early exit at the Olympics (played on clay) was a big surprise.

The women’s game is a little more volatile right now in terms of sleepers making it all the way through to win big matches, but there are sleepers to consider for the 2024 U.S. Open, set for August 26 to September 8 in New York City.

Read on to see our thoughts on some of the dark horses in both draws.

Jack Draper won the Stuttgart Open (a grass tournament). Three of his five matches went to deciding sets, and he was able to show the mental strength to power through those.

In August 2021, he was just No. 269 in the world, but he has risen steadily since then.

He beat Carlos Alcaraz at the Cinch Championships at The Queen’s Club in London, although he followed that up with a loss to Tommy Paul.

Ben Shelton had a nice end to 2023, getting to the semifinals of the U.S. Open before falling to Novak Djokovic, who would go on to win the title.

His big serve and forehand will help him at Flushing Meadows, and his ability to fight through adversity will only continue to help him.

Hubert Hurkacz got to the final in Halle before losing to Jannik Sinner, who was ranked #1 in the world at that point. He did beat Alexander Zverev in the semifinals to get there.

In Halle, Hurkacz won a tiebreak in each match. He also got to the quarterfinals at the French Open. His serves are big enough to break his opponent’s motivation.

Grigor Dimitrov has had a solid 12 months, getting back into the top ten in the world rankings.

He has never really made noise at Grand Slams, though, picking up his stacks of points in the smaller events.

He’s 33, so Father Time may be knocking. Could that push him to greater heights at Flushing Meadows?

Jessica Pegula pounds the ball but has historically underperformed under the pressure of Grand Slam play.

She’s still looking for her first semifinal at any Grand Slam; at Wimbledon, she got sent home in the second round after rolling over Ashlyn Krueger in just 49 minutes in the opening round.

Her work in smaller tournaments has been solid, but we’re still waiting for her to put things together on a larger stage.

She did win the Berlin Open this year, saving five match points.

Daria Kasatkina has made a semifinal at Roland Garros in the past, and she beat Leylah Fernandez emphatically to win at Eastbourne as part of her warmup to Wimbledon.

She has a wide variety of shots, and she brings energy to each point. Belgian coach Wim Fissette called her “the Roger Federer of women’s tennis” on X.

Emma Raducanu isn’t technically a dark horse, since she won the U.S. Open in 2021, but she’s just 21, and she’s been wildly inconsistent since then.

In 2021, she was also the youngest British woman to get to the last 16 at Wimbledon. Injuries and coaching changes have caused turmoil for her career.

Getting back to the stadium where she hoisted a Grand Slam trophy could be just what she needs to revive her prospects as an elite player.
