Wimbledon 2024: Betting Odds, Player Analysis & Preview

Written by on July 1, 2024

Wimbledon Championships is coming! Available now, check out the Wimbledon odds analysis. If you’ve been wondering why professional tennis takes place on three different surfaces – hard court, clay and grass – you’re likely not alone. After all, it’s hard to imagine the NHL having some games on rollerblades on cement or asphalt.

However, hard court tennis is a fairly recent technological advancement. Grass courts were the predominant standard, used at the U.S. Open until 1974 and the Australian Open until 1987.

Wimbledon is the last grass-court major, and what makes play different is that the bounces favor speed (which is good for players with big serves and can get to the net quickly) but don’t pop up as high as they do on hard court or clay surfaces.

These differences can make it harder for players who dominate the other Grand Slams to come to Wimbledon and win.

Let’s take a look at some online betting insights on the men’s and women’s draws as the All-England Club prepares for the first round of competitive play this week.

Wimbledon Odds: Women’s & Men’s Single Last-Minute Preview

Wimbledon Women’s Singles

Iga Swiatek

Swiatek is an example of a tennis player who dominates most of the time but gets frustrated on the grass.

She has a 45-4 record so far in 2024 and just finished steamrolling the opposition en route to a French Open title. However, at Wimbledon, she has never advanced past the quarterfinals.

This could be her year, though – the 2023 champion is out due to injury; the 2022 champion has health issues. The 2021 champion retired from the sport, and the 2019 champion isn’t here.

Some observers think that her footwork involves gripping the surface in a way that keeps her from getting to balls on the faster grass surface. She did win the junior title here in 2018, though.

Coco Gauff

Gauff had been making strides at Wimbledon until she got sent home in the first round last year. Since then, though, her career has really taken off.

If she can get through Caroline Dolehide in the first round this year (and Dolehide is tough), Gauff wouldn’t see Swiatek until the final, based on the bracket. A deep run would get intriguing.

Aryna Sabalenka

Sabalenka hasn’t lost in the first week of a major in several years now.

She lost in the quarterfinals at the French Open, but that had more to do with stomach problems than quality of play. She could roll to her second Grand Slam win off, 2024 here.

Jessica Pegula

Pegula is an interesting pick. She has had a tough 2024 and didn’t play at the French Open at all.

In Berlin, though, she rolled all the way to the title, beating Gauff in the semis and Anna Kalinskaya in three sets.

She did lose to Emma Raducanu this past week, but that had more to do with fatigue from Berlin than anything else. She got to the quarterfinals here in 2023 and could have beaten the eventual champ.

Wimbledon Men’s Singles

Jannik Sinner

Sinner is the new men’s #1 in the world and is the heavy favorite to win the singles draw at Wimbledon.

He has played extremely well on all three surfaces in 2024, and he just won the Halle Open, one of the warm up tournaments to get players ready for the grass at Wimbledon.

His draw could run him into Matteo Berrettini in the second round – a former Wimbledon finalist. If he can get by that challenge, though, he could be tough to deny.

Carlos Alcaraz

Alcaraz is the defending champion and has won three Grand Slams on three different surfaces – Wimbledon in 2023, the U.S. Open in 2023, and the French Open in 2024.

Novak Djokovic

Djokovic is back after having to withdraw at the quarterfinals at the French Open. If he wins Wimbledon this year, that would make eight titles at the All-England Club, which would tie the record set by Roger Federer.

Djokovic was so close to a win last year but fell to Alcaraz in a five-set war.
