Breaking Down the ATP Wimbledon Final: Key Factors & Best Bets

Written by on July 12, 2024

Here you can find all the ATP Wimbledon Picks! Sports betting enthusiasts in the United States can start their Sunday this weekend with the Wimbledon ATP Final – a showdown between Carlos Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic that will reprise the 2023 final, which Alcaraz won in a five-set thriller.

Alcaraz now has three Grand Slam titles on the mantel – the 2022 U.S. Open, Wimbledon a year ago, and the recently concluded French Open, where Djokovic had to withdraw ahead of the quarterfinals due to injury.

A win for Djokovic would give him eight Wimbledon titles, tying him with the eminent Roger Federer for the most men’s singles titles won on Centre Court.

Who will win this time around? Read on to get our betting prediction.

ATP Final Showdown: Wimbledon Picks, Analysis & Prediction

Carlos Alcaraz Wimbledon Picks -150

As time goes by, young players tend to improve while older players tend to slip a bit.

Djokovic hasn’t shown any difficulties getting through the Wimbledon bracket in terms of health, but the wear and tear of another long tournament and the physical and mental stress of dealing with Alcaraz’s game could take their toll.

No one had beaten Djokovic in a Wimbledon final since Andy Murray did it in 2013, and Alcaraz now has the motivation of having lost an epic three-set match to Djokovic in Cincinnati (7-5, 6-7(7), 6-7(4)).

When they met at the Nitto ATP Finals, Djokovic won in a 6-3, 6-2 laugher. That means that Djokovic has won three of the last four meetings, including wins in five sets with multiple breaks.

Novak Djokovic Wimbledon Picks +120

Djokovic has beaten Alcaraz twice since losing to him in the 2023 Wimbledon final, with wins at the ATP Masters 1000 in Cincinnati and the Nitto ATP Finals.

Neither of those is a Grand Slam, and Wimbledon is played on grass.

Both players have seen their form slip between the 2023 Wimbledon final than today, but Alcaraz has seen his play dip more, despite that French Open title.

Alcaraz’s side of the Wimbledon draw was significantly tougher than was Djokovic’s.

Alcaraz had three matches go four sets and one go the full distance. Djokovic hasn’t really been touched by anyone and didn’t even have to play a quarterfinal as De Minaur withdrew due to injury.

So Djokovic has a lot less mileage on his legs in the tournament to this point.

Before losing to Alcaraz in the final last year, Djokovic had won 34 consecutive matches at the All England Club, including the titles in 2018, 2019, 2021 and 2022.

In this tournament, he has won nine straight sets, sweeping Alexei Popyrin, Holger Rune and Lorenzo Musetti. Add to that the fact that he didn’t even have to play a quarterfinal match, and you see a Djokovic with more rest.

Wimbledon ATP Final Prediction Carlos Alcaraz vs Novak Djokovic

Djokovic left the French Open at the quarterfinals to undergo surgery for a torn meniscus on his knee.

That surgery looks to have been a massive success to this point as he has rolled through the bracket.

The fact that he hasn’t faced the competition level that Alcaraz has at the Wimbledon bracket doesn’t mean that he’s rusty as Djokovic has far too much experience at an elite level for this to make a significant difference.

Alcaraz may have the mental edge because of the difficulties he has already faced in this tournament, but the price that goes along with that mental edge is physical fatigue.

Wimbledon Final Pick: I predict a highlight reel of a final, but I also like Djokovic to win in five.
