The biggest headline from Tuesday in the world of sports came from Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, where LeBron James became the top scorer in the history of the NBA, passing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar with a 14-foot fadeaway jumper with 10.9 seconds remaining in the third quarter of the Lakers’ game with the Oklahoma City Thunder. The Lakers would lose, 133-130, but James found himself alone at the top of the scoring list after breaking a record that Abdul-Jabbar had held for over 38 years. James entered the game needing 36 points to pass Kareem, and he ended with 38, going 13 of 20 from the floor (including 4 of 6 from three-point land). Let’s take a look at some other headlines from sports that may influence your online betting decisions going forward.

Aaron Rodgers to head into the dark to consider his future
In an interview on The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday, Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers has said that he will leave for a “darkness retreat,” spending four days and four nights in a small, dark hut to reflect on 2023. Last offseason, he joined in some ayahuasca ceremonies, but this time around, he will not use any hallucinogens but will simply meditate and reflect. He may end up retiring or returning for another season; the Packers have already suggested that they are ready to move on to the Jordan Love era, which would likely mean a trade. There are a lot of teams that could use an elite quarterback. Rodgers just won the amateur trophy at the PGA Tour’s AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am, and he heard chatter from a lot of fan bases hoping that he would join their team. It remains to be seen what kind of trade the Packers’ front office would pull off.
Las Vegas Raiders permit Derek Carr to visit the Saints
Derek Carr, winner of the recent passing skills competition as part of the Pro Bowl festivities, continues his search for a destination next year. The Las Vegas Raiders benched him, apparently viewing Jarrett Stidham as the next answer at quarterback. This is Carr’s first known visit before February 15, the trigger date on his deal with the Raiders. If he is still on the team then, $40.4 million of his salary would become guaranteed, either by the Raiders or his new team. If the Raiders can’t find a deal, it makes sense that they would release him to save all that money. They would only have a $5.6 million salary cap in 2023 if they cut him, freeing up $29.3 million in salary cap room. The Saints are estimated to exceed the 2023 salary cap by at least $55 million, which means a lot of restructuring would have to happen for Carr to be able to join the team, which currently has Jameis Winston and Andy Dalton atop the quarterback depth chart.
Nets and KD talking about the future of the team
Now that Brooklyn has officially dealt Kyrie Irving and Markieff Morris to Dallas, the lone remaining superstar in Brooklyn, Kevin Durant, is meeting with team owner Joe Tsai and GM Sean Marks to discuss how the team will move forward as a championship contender. The Nets have, so far, told Durant that they do not intend to trade him before Thursday’s deadline. The deal with Dallas brought Spencer Dinwiddie and Dorian Finney-Smith to Brooklyn. Those two are terrific role players, but neither is close to the scoring star power that Irving brought. The Nets dealt forward Kessler Edwards and cash to Sacramento, essentially opening up $8 million under the salary cap, and they are looking to make other deals to upgrade their roster. Durant has three years and $153 million left on his deal after this season and is currently on the shelf with a sprained MCL in his right knee, but he should be back shortly after the All-Star break in February.
