MLB Betting Preview: Rangers at Athletics

Written by on September 21, 2015

As strange as it may sound, getting the division lead in the latter part of the MLB betting season is often easier than holding onto it to the very end. The Texas Rangers have clawed their way to the top of the AL West, but they still have 2 weeks to go before they can be crowned as champions. They will try to cement that lead when they head into Oakland to face the A’s on Tuesday night.

Rangers vs Athletics: MLB Betting Preview

Date: Tuesday, September 22, 2015 Time: 10:05PM Venue: O.co Coliseum Opening Line: Texas -125 It was a week that started brilliantly for the Texas Rangers (80-69), but also one that saw them go out with a bit of a whimper. They started out last week by taking all 4 games against the Houston Astros, which allowed them to go to the top of the division, but they closed it out by dropping 2 of 3 to the Seattle Mariners. There is still some cause for mild celebration, though, as the Rangers have a game and a half lead, and know that they are control of their own destiny. This does not look like being an easy week for Texas, as they have 6 games on the road, which includes a 3-game set against the Astros this coming weekend. The Rangers have a decent 41-34 road record this season, so they are not about to go into panic mode when thinking about this trip. Martin Perez (3-5, 4.96 ERA) will get the start for Texas on Tuesday night. martin-perez The Oakland A’s (64-86) will be glad to be getting home after going on a 10 game road trip that saw them put together a 4-6 record. Included in that jaunt was a 3 games against Texas, with the Rangers taking 2 of them in pretty convincing fashion. Home has not necessarily where the heart has been for Oakland this season, though, as they are currently 9 games under .500 in their own ball park. The A’s played 6 games against Texas at home in the first half of the season, and were able to put together a 4-2 record. That was a very different Rangers ball club than what we are seeing now, though, and Oakland knows they are going to have a very tough go of things over the course of the 3 games. Sean Nolin (1-1, 3.24 ERA) will get the start for Oakland. Sean-Nolin

So, Who Should You Bet On?

The Rangers can surely now taste that division title, and they will want to maintain a lead heading into the Astros series later in the week. That should be inspiration enough for them to get the win here.
