Dallas at NY Giants Week 14 NFL Lines & Expert Prediction

Written by on December 6, 2017

The schizophrenic season of the Dallas Cowboys took a turn for the better last Thursday, when they knocked off the Washington Redskins, 38-14 behind strong running by Alfred Morris, a punt return for a touchdown by Brent Switzer and old-school receiving by Dez Bryant. That ended a three-game losing streak for Dallas and kept them just on the edges of wild card contention. They face a New York Giants team who took the bizarre step of benching legendary quarterback Eli Manning for Geno Smith (making Smith just the second quarterback ever to start at that position for both the Jets and the Giants). After that turned into a debacle in Oakland, the Giants promptly canned coach Ben McAdoo. When the Giants welcome Dallas, will they be bristling with anger or drooping with apathy? Check out our NFL lines preview of this classic NFC East matchup.

Why should you bet on the Cowboys’ NFL Lines?

With two touchdown passes and no interceptions against Washington, Dak Prescott ended an unpleasant streak in which he had committed eight turnovers (five picks and three fumbles) in three losses to the Falcons, Eagles and Chargers. He did take a hard helmet hit on the hand against Washington but continued to deliver the ball accurately. It helped that the offensive line gave him time to throw and opened up some holes for Alfred Morris and Rod Smith in the running game. The defense was still missing Sean Lee last week but managed to limit the chances that the Washington offense had to move the ball up and down the field. A late touchdown drive in the first half gave Dallas fans some indigestion, but other than that the Cowboys had a solid pass rush and managed their coverages. Lee is supposed to return from his hamstring injury against the Giants, which means that Dallas will have their defensive “quarterback” on the field. If you like the Cowboys, you see them shutting down a Giant offense that has struggled against just about everyone this season.

Why should you put your money on the Giants’ NFL Lines?

Eli Manning will be back at quarterback on Sunday, and you can expect him to try to use the game to make a statement about his own prospects at the position. During his week as the backup to Smith, Manning had said that he plans to play somewhere next year as the starter, and it just took one loss for the team’s ownership to can the coach and the general manager. So look for Manning to do what he can to torch the Dallas secondary…but can his offensive line give him enough time to pass? New York really doesn’t have the sort of running game that can take pressure off the passing attack. The Giants have invested heavily in their defense, even though you wouldn’t know that from the team’s 2-10 record. Jason Pierre-Paul has terrorized opposing quarterbacks this season, and the Giants have a way of getting up for Dallas, although they have had more success against the Cowboys in Dallas than they have had on their own home field.

Expert Pick and Final Prediction for Week 14

Dallas has covered the spread in six of their last eight games against teams with losing records, and they have covered the spread in each of their last four games that come the week after they put up 30 points in their previous contest. The Giants have failed to cover the spread in their last four games against NFC opponents, and they are definitely a team that is on the ropes. I see Dallas taking advantage of the situation and delivering a win. I predict a final score of Dallas 41, New York 16.
