NFL Week 2 SU Betting Picks

Written by on September 11, 2017

Just about the entire slate of Week One matchups from the 2017 NFL regular season is in the books. Tom Savage has already been benched at quarterback in Houston, but the insertion of Deshaun Watson didn’t come in time for the Texans to catch back up to the Jaguars. We saw that the Atlanta Falcons have some waking up to do before they enter the tough part of their schedule, as they barely escaped Soldier Field with a win over the Bears. We’ve made a straight-up pick for every matchup coming in NFL Week 2, so check out our thoughts before locking in your NFL betting for this weekend.

NFL Week 2 SU Betting Picks

Thursday, September 14

Houston at Cincinnati (8:30pm ET, NBC)

Andy Dalton turned the ball over five times against Baltimore in the opener. The Texans’ defense isn’t quite as strong as Baltimore’s, but the Bengals will struggle to move the ball again. How many points can Deshaun Watson hang on Cincinnati? Take the Texans.

Sunday, September 17

Cleveland at Baltimore (1:00pm ET, CBS)

Of the four AFC North teams, Baltimore looked the most game-ready in their opener. The Browns will approach the game with more energy that Cincinnati did, but Baltimore can contain DeShone Kizer, and Joe Flacco will be able to find open receivers in that Cleveland secondary. Go with the Ravens in NFL Week 2.

Buffalo at Carolina (1:00pm ET, CBS)

Tyrod Taylor and the Bills’ offense moved the ball well against the Jets in the opener. However, Luke Kuechly leads a Panther defense that is much stouter than the one New York brought. I’m not sure that the Bills can contain Cam Newton — so bet on the Panthers here.

Arizona at Indianapolis (1:00pm ET, FOX)

Arizona was up on Detroit in the second half — until Matthew Stafford went nuts and drove the Lions to yet another comeback victory. The Colts don’t have the sort of defense that can contain the Cardinals while putting up points of their own – especially if tailback David Johnson can play. Bet on the Cardinals.

Tennessee at Jacksonville (1:00pm ET, CBS)

I was worried about Jacksonville — quarterback controversies in the preseason almost never lead to solid regular seasons. But the Jaguars looked great down in Houston, on both sides of the ball. Will Leonard Fournette gain 100 yards every week? Go with the Jags.

Philadelphia at Kansas City (1:00pm ET, FOX)

Did you see Carson Wentz dodge pass rush after pass rush against Washington on Sunday? He is one of the most poised second-year quarterbacks to show up in the last decade in the NFL. However, the Chiefs are better on both sides of the ball than the Redskins, especially with Alex Smith showing a Beast Mode of his own last week. Bet on the Chiefs.

New England at New Orleans (1:00pm ET, CBS)

I don’t see New England going 0-2 to start this season, especially against a team as defensively challenged as the New Orleans Saints. Drew Brees will lead the Saints to plenty of points, but New England will win a close one here. Take the Pats. Minnesota at Pittsburgh (1:00pm ET, FOX) Pittsburgh has a way of grinding out tough wins at home, even against teams with solid defenses like the Vikings. Le’Veon Bell and Ben Roethlisberger have more combined experience, particularly in big games, pulling out these types of victories than Dalvin Cook and Sam Bradford do. Go with Minnesota here.

Chicago at Tampa Bay (1:00pm ET, FOX)

Mike Glennon returns to the starting point of his NFL career as the Bears head south to take on Tampa Bay. The Buccaneers have a solid quarterback-receiver combo in Jameis Winston and DeSean Jackson and Mike Evans — while the Bears will struggle to move the ball at all. Take the Bucs in NFL Week 2.

Miami at L.A. Chargers (4:05pm ET, CBS)

If Matt Moore were at quarterback for Miami in this game, I’d think hard about taking the Dolphins. They have a salty defense and, with Moore, an opportunistic quarterback. However, they are rolling out Jay Cutler, which more often than not means crucial mistakes at exactly the wrong time. Go with the Chargers here. Are the Dolphins a safe bet in NFL Week 2?

N.Y. Jets at Oakland (4:05pm ET, CBS)

The Jets looked like a real mess in Buffalo — and that’s with Josh McCown leading the offense. If Christian Hackenberg or Bryce Petty has to come on, things could get even worse. Also, the Raiders have a much more fast-paced offense than the Bills do. Bet on the Raiders in NFL Week 2.

Dallas at Denver (4:25pm ET, FOX)

That ironclad Denver defense wore down some last year, because the Broncos’ offense was so inconsistent — leading to a 9-7 record. I don’t expect Trevor Siemian to shine against the Dallas D next week, and even if the Cowboys have to rely on Darren McFadden or Alfred Morris to carry the ball, their line should be enough to make the difference. Bet on the Cowboys.

Washington at L.A. Rams (4:25pm ET, FOX)

Jared Goff looked like a seasoned veteran quarterback, picking apart that Colt secondary in Week One. The Redskins had a hard time moving the ball when they needed to against Philadelphia — and the Rams will bring a much tougher defense. I like the Rams here.

San Francisco at Seattle (4:25pm ET, FOX)

Seattle’s defense was pretty good against Green Bay in Week One — it was just a short field on a Russell Wilson fumble and a blown pass interference call that should have been whistled against Green Bay that ended up making the difference. The Niners aren’t on the same planet with the Packers right now. Take Seattle in this game.

Green Bay at Atlanta (8:30pm ET, NBC)

Green Bay looked a lot more focused than Atlanta did in Week One — the difference between a motivated team and a shell-shocked one, as the Falcons continue to find their way out of their Super Bowl hangover. Bet on Green Bay.

Monday, September 18

Detroit at N.Y. Giants (8:30pm ET, ESPN)

The Giants looked lost on offense, with Odell Beckham Jr. on the sideline with an ankle injury. I don’t expect him to miss two games in a row — and I don’t expect the Giants’ defense to fold in the second half like Arizona’s did in Week One against Detroit. Take the Giants in NFL Week 2.
