EURO 2024 has seen some significant upsets in group play, none bigger than Georgia’s shocking 2-0 win over Portugal.
Georgia are in their first international tournament as a soccer team since the nation gained independence from the former Soviet Union in 1991, and they entered their Group F finale as +800 underdogs.
Portugal had a lineup filled with reserves after winning their first two matches, and the Georgians took advantage. Along with Slovenia and Slovakia, Georgia have reached the knockout stage with +50000 odds of winning the title.
The Golden Boot goes to the player with the most goals in the tournament, so let’s take a look at the sports betting odds of the current contenders, as well as the standings as they sit today.

Player Standings
- Georges Mikautadze, Georgia: 3 goals
- Niclas Fullkrug, Germany: 2 goals
- Jamal Musiala, Germany: 2 goals
- Cody Gakpo, Netherlands: 2 goals
- Razvan Marin, Romania: 2 goals
- Ivan Schranz, Slovakia: 2 goals
Georges Mikautadze
Mikautadze is the leader right now, but the likelihood of Georgia advancing to the quarterfinals is even smaller than it was to beat a Portugal team that were clearly looking ahead to the next round.
Their opponent in the round of 16 is Spain, one of the top choices to win the championship. We know Spain won’t have backups on the field and will be squarely focused on shutting Mikautadze down.
So while his three-goal group play performance is impressive (as is Georgia’s win over Portugal), this is likely where his story ends.
Niclas Füllkrug & Jamal Musiala
The two German players are on a team getting plenty of offense, and so they have a pair of two-goal scorers.
Having multiple offensive stars on a team is good from the perspective of winning the trophy as a group, but it can make it difficult for one of those scorers to walk off with a Golden Boot.
That was what made Ronaldo’s candidacy work; he has help on offense with Portugal, but he is the goalscorer.
He won the Golden Boot at the last EURO with five goals and an assist, but he didn’t score at all in group play and is now further down the odds list here as a result.
Harry Kane
Harry Kane, the betting favorite, has yet to net a goal for England (although England did win their group and advanced to the round of 16).
The English side have struggled to get consistent offensively, but still managed to win their group.
If he can open things up against Slovakia and get a goal (or even a brace), then things get interesting in the Golden Boot race.
Germany as the host nation are riding the momentum of having home crowds in the stands and an impressive group-play performance, so I would put my money on either Fullkrug or Musiala at this point.
