If they do make it through as a third-place team, they would likely see Belgium, Spain or England in the last 16…which is where their run in 2016 ended. This team’s biggest star is Luka Modric, who at the age of 38 is in his eighth major tournament with Croatia. He was a major contributor in Real Madrid winning yet another Champions Cup and is still one of the best midfielders in the world.
This group went to the World Cup final in 2018, and that core is still playing. There are also young contributors like Majer, who is one of the top defenders in the world and is starting for VfL Wolfsburg in the Bundesliga.
He’s the sort of attacking midfielder who, one day, will replace Modric nicely. Group B is a gauntlet with both Spain and Italy, and Croatia have never won a knockout round match at a European Championship. However, if they can get to the round of 16, they could start a lengthy run.
England EURO 2024 Odds to Win +330
The Three Lions haven’t won a major international tournament since that World Cup title all the way back in 1966. However, they made the EURO final three years ago, and they are the sports betting favorites coming in. They lost their coach between their last EURO appearance and now, and while they have depth on defense and the midfield, that iffy attack could make them suffer.
Portugal EURO 2024 Odds to Win +620
Cristiano Ronaldo will now take part in his sixth EURO. He leads in EURO games played (25) and goals scored (14). In nine qualifying games, he scored 10 times thanks to service from the newest generation of attackers in Poland.
Midfielder Vitinha was the top player for PSG not named Kylian Mbappe, contributing mightily in their semifinal run in the Champions League. He didn’t see much time on the field during qualifying for Portugal as their midfield has depth, but he did start with Joao Palhinha in both of their June friendlies, and he could come on and make contributions in the tournament.
Portugal might have too much talent to win, because fitting it all together is the biggest challenge, especially when it comes to keeping everyone happy – starting with Ronaldo. They did have the best qualifying record with 10 wins and a 36-2 goal differential.
They also let in shots, shots on target, and touches in the opponent’s box. The group isn’t that hard with Turkey, Georgia and the Czech Republic, so this team should win Group F. How far it goes has to do with Ronaldo’s attitude and the coaches’ ability to get the best out of this talented roster.
